Paloma Faith has disclosed that she suffers from stress-induced alopecia, with her hair falling out during highly traumatic moments in her life.
Paloma spoke on an edition of Great Company with Jamie Laing to discuss a variety of issues, including her relationship breakup and her new album, The Glorification of Sadness.
During the podcast, the Only Love Can Hurt Like This singer revealed to Jamie that she had stress-induced alopecia, which is associated with ’emotional’ stress.
While chatting to the former Made in Chelsea star, the singer, 42, said: ‘I get stress-related alopecia. And I think all of that it’s like – and it’s always emotional.’
The 42-year-old clarified: ‘If I’m stressed at work, it doesn’t fall out but if it’s emotional, my hair starts falling out.’
She explained that it’s like her body is ‘eating itself’ because she hasn’t properly processed her emotions.
‘And it’s something to do with the body kind of starting to eat itself, if you don’t release those feelings. So it’s really important that you do.’
This revelation was made when Jamie asked if her music and her new album was her ‘place of comfort’ to release her emotions.
Paloma replied: ‘It’s therapeutic. It’s cathartic Absolutely. But I also do a lot of actual therapy as well. And I find that important, I can notice when I don’t go for a while that I need it. But I don’t think anger is a negative emotion either.’
She also discussed her breakup from her spouse, Leyman Lahcine, whom she married in 2017 and divorced in 2022 after nine years together. The couple have two kids, ages eight and three.

‘We have children together and that’s what makes this a different type of heartbreak album because the heartbreak will be forever and the navigation of our relationship changing shape will be forever, probably until we die’ she said.
‘You can’t really let go of someone you’ve got kids with.’
‘In my case, it’s even harder I think in a way because we really like each other a lot and we’re really close and we still love each other’
She added, sadly: ‘And that makes it confusing. So it’s sort of heartbreaking every time we see each other.’
Just last month Paloma Faith made a devastating confession about her marriage as she told The Independent, ‘Our relationship ended because we have those children.’
But she added: ‘And I think that was worth it.’
What is alopecia?
Alopecia is a general term used to describe hair loss which can be caused by a variety of different issues.
The average person loses between 50 to 100 hairs per day and while loss of hair isn’t anything to worry about, it can sometimes be an indicator that something else is going on in the body.
Per the NHS, the main causes of temporary hair loss include:
- an illness
- stress
- cancer treatment
- weight loss
- iron deficiency
