Taylor Swift has wreaked more havoc on the internet, and this time her fans are bringing their dogs into the fray as they dance around their living rooms to her smash August.
The 33-year-old shut down booking sites due to high demand for her Eras Tour dates, and now she has taken over TikTok – at least in spirit – as fans use their pets as props in a peculiar new social media craze.
Swifities from all around the world have banded together to celebrate the chart-topping tune by filming themselves spinning their kitties around high in the air and sending the videos to the video-sharing site.
Users have been pulling their animals beneath their limbs and swishing them around in circles as the singer’s voice blasted out in the background.
Despite the fact that the fad was mostly centred on cats, it was also applied to a bulldog and a tortoise, who were less than pleased to having their legs elevated off the ground.
Taylor’s album Folklore featured the song August, and the notion of elevating cats in particular into the air appeared to be an homage to the star’s public affection for the feline pals.
Users have been tying phones to their foreheads with the camera capability active and sprinting to pick up their dogs and capture their responses as they sailed through the air to implement the fad.
One challenger published his video with the comment ‘lmao this trend,’ and pulled his small white cat along for the voyage.
Underneath the video, followers commented on the adorable clip with one writing: ‘Me wondering how I can do this with my English bulldog’.
Another said: ‘Oh how I screamed when I saw it was a kitten,’ while a separate account added: ‘Hahahaha how the little back legs are just flying around.’
Another person attempted the weird internet activities by taking her pet racoon ‘for a ride’ and dancing with the animal while playing Taylor’s songs.
The account user pulled the raccoon up into the air under its front legs and whirled around in circles after removing it from its cage.
A fan of the clip left a comment on the app summing up the number of reenactments they had seen that read: ‘I’ve now watched approximately 82 cats, 6 dogs, 1 turtle, 1 chicken, 1 human reenactment, and 1 raccoon.’
