A hot holiday abroad can be just what you need around April time.
You’ve made it through a cold, frosty and grey winter, so it’s only natural to seek out a sprinkling of sunshine.
Sadly, springtime isn’t a good weather guarantee in the UK. Sometimes, it’s all glistening sun and blooming flower meadows, but often you’ll find the forecast is filled with heavy rainfall and chilly winds.
Of course, many families will also be keen to get away in April as schools break up for their Easter holidays.
So, we’ve established April can be a pretty good month to jet off in search of sunnier climes – but where exactly can you find blue skies, balmy temperatures and warm seas?
Here’s where to go for hot weather in April.
Where is hot in April?

At this time of year, you could go almost anyplace in Mexico. Cancun is an obvious choice, and for city and culture, Oaxaca or Mexico City are excellent choices.
But, as the dry, sunny season comes to an end, Tulum is a great place to go for beaches, leisure, and a chance to visit a few old Maya monuments.
Not only is the weather ideal for sunbathing, but the water temperature is ideal for swimming and water sports at roughly 27°C.

It sounds heavenly, just like crossing the Great Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx of Giza off your bucket list (through a pre-arranged tour), viewing the future Grand Egyptian Museum (when it finally opens, scheduled in 2023), or enjoying a Nile cruise.
If you are visiting Cairo, tour the city’s various bazaars and learn about Egyptian history at the Egyptian Museum.
Costa del Sol, Spain

Temperature: 16°C (up to 21°C)

This nice stretch of shore in the Andalusia area is excellent at this time of year, giving a ray of sunlight and the opportunity to enjoy the beach. However, you should carry a jacket for the chilly evenings.
The most notable attractions here in the UK are Malaga (which is a great place to visit, and readily accessible if you’re on a budget, as well as a popular party hotspot), Marbella, and the mediaeval village of Casares.
If you have the time (and a car), head north to see more of Andalusia, which is home to the Alhambra in Granada, the famed Mosque-Cathedral in Córdoba, and the cities of Seville and Cadiz.
Florida Keys, USA

Temperature: 25°C (up to 28°C)
Sunshine hours: 10 hours

April is a very pleasant month to visit this sun-drenched state, with temperatures reaching 30°C (about 86°F in the United States). It was hot, but not unbearably so.
Florida’s family-friendly favourite locations include Universal Orlando and Disney World, as well as magnificent beaches and boardwalks in Miami and a taste of city life in Tampa or Jacksonville.
Head off the Florida coast to the tropical Florida Keys, a magnificent archipelago famed for the opportunity to snorkel with dolphins, animals, kayaking, and boat trips.
You may also visit adjacent Everglades National Park.

Explore the UNESCO-listed Medina (the city’s walled area), see the architecture of the local mosques, and visit the renowned Chouara Tannery.
By the way, high temperatures aren’t out of the question here. The city’s highest recorded temperature in April 2021 was a summer-like 26°C.

This Canary Island boasts many resort places where you may soak up the sun, including Playa del Carmen, Costa Teguise, and Playa Blanca, all of which have comfortable hotels and gorgeous beaches.
Lanzarote is well-known for its bizarre volcanic landscapes, most notably Timanfaya National Park and the lava tube Cueva de Los Verdes.
If you enjoy a mix of leisure and activity when on holiday, this is the place to be.
It’s also a popular choice for individuals who have visited – and appreciated – Tenerife or Gran Canaria.
Seychelles

Sunshine hours: Five to six hours
Flight time: Around 14 hours
The gorgeous Seychelles, located in the Indian Ocean off the coast of East Africa, is made up of 115 islands.

You might also visit La Digue, Praslin, Silhouette, and Denis, which all have beautiful beaches.

So, while staying at the beach is an option, you won’t want to miss out on everything the island has to offer.
Take a tour of the Cayman Crystal Caves, trek the tree-covered Mastic Trail, go scuba diving, or meet the local animals at the Cayman Turtle Centre or Blue Iguana Conservation.
Because it’s a long flight from the UK, you’ll want to visit the two smaller islands, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, especially if you enjoy wildlife.
Las Vegas, USA
Temperature: 19°C (up to 26°C)
Sunshine hours: 12 hours
Flight time: 10 hours, 50 minutes

And if you’re looking for an American experience with beautiful hotels, bright activities, and blazing heat but aren’t interested in relaxing on the beach, Nevada’s most renowned spot will fit the bill.
Enjoy musical acts, magic shows, and large spectacles, as well as a little casino gaming.
Have you been tapped out? Avoid the strip in favour of a nature walk in Red Rock Canyon or the larger Mojave Desert, or travel to the shared border with Arizona to visit the Hoover Dam.
The Algarve, Portugal

Temperature: 16°C (up to 23°C)
Sunshine hours: Nine hours
Flight time: Two hours, 50 minutes
Despite the heat of summer, many people believe that spring (March to May) is the best time to visit Portugal.
If you agree, go to the Algarve in April. The region’s southern coast has golden beaches and bright sky, as well as wonderful food and even better wine.
Consider a beach holiday in Albufeira, a trip to the cities of Faro and Lagos (home to the picture-perfect Praia do Camilo beach, accessible by a flight of 200 wooden stairs), or a trip out along the coast to see traditional villages like Tavira.
Sagres, a town on the southern edge of the Algarve that is frequently referred to as “the end of the earth,” is a must-see.
Sorrento and Amalfi Coast, Italy

Temperature: 13°C (up to 18°C)
Sunshine hours: Seven hours
Flight time: Two hours, 35 minutes
The Amalfi Coast and stunning Sorrento (near Naples and Pompeii) go hand in hand. They’re just around an hour away by driving.
And what a driving force that is. A really “bucket list” ride with breathtaking views of the Mediterranean.
Positano, perhaps the most well-known stop along the journey, is admired by photographers the world over for its breathtaking views of colourful villas scattered across the cliffs.
Temperatures in April can reach the upper tens (with luck), so it’s not the warmest place in April by any means – but it should be warmer than the UK, which averages approximately 11°C at this time of year.
It’s a perfect temperature for enjoying the journey, and it’s the type of beach you can appreciate no matter what the weather is like.
