Alison Hammond recounted one of her favourite anecdotes about Paul Hollywood and his small Lamborghini.
While appearing on tonight’s The One Show, the 48-year-old broadcaster recalled her first day presenting The Great British Bake Off, a post she took up from comic Matt Lucas.
The This Morning host took us on a voyage while speaking with Roman Kemp and Alex Jones, as well as fellow Bake Off host Noel Fielding.
Alison described receiving VIP treatment from bread-wizard judge Paul Hollywood on her first visit to the Bake Off hotel, when he drove her there in his Lamborghini.
However, it was hardly the lavish experience Alison had envisioned.
‘On the first day he says, “Do you want a lift to the hotel?”‘ recalled Alison.
‘I said, “Oh great.” He had a really nice car, a bit of a Lamborghini.’ Like the Batmobile, according to Noel.
The This Morning presenter continued to explain how – given it’s proximity to the floor and sleek aerodynamic design – the car was a ‘struggle for me to get in’.
‘You had to lie down,’ Noel reminded Alison, who has clearly heard the hilarious story before.
‘[The car] was like on the floor. It was so unladylike, literally my legs were wide open,’ she explained with a gesture mimicking her legs in the air, between ruptures of laughter in the studio.
But just when we thought Alison’s entrance into Paul’s itty-bitty Lamborghini was the main event, she continued suddenly quite serious: ‘Let’s just say I will never do it again. It was the most frightening ride I’ve ever had in my life. It was so scary.’
Yikes. That doesn’t say too much about the 57 year old’s driving.
Alison made her long-awaited Bake Off debut on Tuesday, in the first episode of season 14.
Amateur bakers are competing once more for the title of champion, overcoming technical, signature, and show-stopping difficulties.
Many fans have praised the presenter’s entry into the Bake Off tent, and there have already been some hilarious moments one episode in.
But, although Paul may give out a handshake or two for an expertly-risen loaf or fluffy cake, Alison will not be applauding him on his driving ability.
In fact, Alison has said unequivocally that she would never again ride in Paul’s Batmobile.
The One Show airs on BBC1 at 7pm every weekday.
