Prepare your aprons and rolling pins: The Great British Bake Off (GBBO) is back.
In just a few hours, 12 new Bake Off participants will turn on their ovens in an attempt to reach the Bake Off hall of fame.
Each week, they’ll be charged with crafting spectacular bakes based on a theme – and there will undoubtedly be lots of mistakes as the contenders race against the clock to be declared Star Baker.
Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood return to separate the soggy bottoms from the wet sponges, as Noel Fielding returns to host.
Alison Hammond, a newcomer to the Channel 4 show, will be by his side.
As we prepare to enter the famed Bake Off tent once more, many will be betting on who will win this year’s competition – but what exactly does the winner get, and who won in 2022?
What does the winner of The Great British Bake Off get?
Viewers may be startled to find that the winner of GBBO does not get a large monetary award.
After beating their fellow competitors, the winner of the show receives a bouquet of flowers and a cake stand – that’s it.
Aside from a passion of baking, many candidates are likely to join up to participate for the publicity.
Many past Bake Off contestants have gone on to secure book and television agreements, with season three winner John Whaite appearing on Strictly Come Dancing in 2021 and even opening his own cooking school.
Nadiya Hussain has had numerous presenting duties on Loose Women since winning season six in 2015. She has also developed a best-selling cookbook.
Who won the show in 2022?
Syabira Yusoff won Bake Off in 2022 after finishing in the top three.
The Malaysian-born baker relocated to the UK in 2013 to pursue her PhD, and she discovered her passion for baking in 2017.
She made it to the show’s finals alongside Abdul and Sandro, winning the Bake Off title in the last, stressful episode and was called as a ‘great baker’ by Paul Hollywood.
She praised her victory as the ‘greatest triumph of her life.’
She has since started her own Malaysian masterclass for her 80k Instagram followers, as well as her own afternoon tea event, which has sold out.
Syabira has also performed with culinary luminaries at events such as the Foodies Festival and Food Festival.
