Becky Hill stated that her last interview with Lorraine Kelly was “one of the worst” she had ever done because she was so scared.
The vocalist originally debuted on The Voice during its inaugural season in 2012, wowing the judges with her rendition of John Legend’s Ordinary People.
Yet, an interview with Lorraine in 2020 left her apprehensive in front of the cameras over a decade later.
Becky revealed she has always battled with her confidence during interviews when she returned to the show on Wednesday.
‘The last time I was on this very show I use it as an example of one of the worst interviews I’ve ever given,’ she explained.
‘No that’s not true, that’s not true at all, you were so lovely,’ Lorraine responded.
Becky, on the other hand, said that she had’repeated myself so many times’ and that a friend had even produced a funny compilation of “all the times” she had stated “for sure” during the five-minute interview.
‘I was so nervous the last time I came on the show,’ she explained.
But, as Lorraine comforted her, the presenter added it ‘wasn’t easy to sit there and talk about yourself…we are British and not very good at it’.
‘It’s terrifying,’ Becky said.
But, the singer stated that her participation in the new music talent show Project Icon, in which she serves as a mentor with Jason DeRulo and his long-term manager Frank Harris, made her wish that a comparable format had been available when she was younger.
She said in this series that competitors go through a “pop star boot camp” to master the abilities needed to make it in the music industry, including tasks centred on songwriting, music videos, and interviews.
‘This is the kind of training I wish I had when I was 17 on The Voice,’ she said.
‘I had to do a lot of that on the job.
‘What is great about this show we give people to make these mistakes in a nurtured situation.’
Becky told Lorraine that she had to learn a lot via trial and error, which included doing ‘a number of music videos I didn’t enjoy.’
‘What I like to feel we have here is giving people the tools to be let out into the real world,’ she said of her new show.
Becky has became the only competitor to have a UK number one single with her song Gecko after reaching the semi-finals of The Voice.
She has also won Best Dancing Act at the Brit Awards the last two years.
Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV.
