*Warning: Spoilers ahead for Ted Lasso season 3 episode 1*
Ted Lasso fans were stunned when the show’s most beloved couple announced their divorce in the first episode.
The irrepressibly charming film follows Ted (Jason Sudeikis), a small-time American football coach, as he attempts to guide the English football side AFC Richmond to triumph.
Despite his inexperience, Ted soon wins over the players, including the brash Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster) and his employer Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham), who is dealing with the aftereffects of a divorce.
The first episode of Chapter Three finally aired on Wednesday [March 15], much to the pleasure of fans everywhere, but they quickly suffered a dramatic shift in feelings after a bombshell discovery involving Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) and Keeley Jones (Juno Temple) was revealed.
After working on their relationship, the fan-favorite couple opted to spend the summer apart at the end of season two.
Nevertheless, in the last moments of the newest episode, the pair split up with Roy’s niece Phoebe.
The shocking news clearly shocked fans, who quickly rushed to Twitter.
One person tweeted: ‘NOT MY ROY AND KEELEY BREAKING UP not even 9am and Ted Lasso S3 has ripped my heart out.’
Another added: ‘The only good thing about Roy and Keeley breakup is that they did it in first episode and they didn’t look like they want to breakup so it gives me hope by the end of the season they’ll get back together.’
A third wrote: ‘They f*****g broke up Roy and Keeley, if they won’t get back together by the end of the season I will sue.’
Brett, 42, stated last year that the third installment will be the final one.
‘We are writing it like that. It was planned as three [seasons],’ he said.
In an attempt to lift the mood, the star joked to The Sunday Times: ‘Spoiler alert — everyone dies.’
Ted Lasso is available to watch on Apple TV Plus, with new episodes released on Wednesdays.
