One contestant on The Wheel astonished viewers by winning a mega-prize pot despite having very no expertise of the category of questions.
Toby, who is blind, received £45,000, which he claimed will be used to pay off his education loans and purchase a vehicle for his partner, who drives him everywhere.
The participant rapidly captured the hearts of the audience with his charming grin and sly sense of humour, making countless jokes about his own impairment during the game.
In one round, he was entrusted with answering a rugby question with YouTuber Chunkz serving as his expert.
Clearly not knowledgable about the sport, the vlogger said: ‘Never watched a game of rugby in my life, never played it…’
Before Toby chimed in: ‘I’ve never watched anything, mate! So it’s all good’, earning a ripple of laughs from the audience.
In order to solve his final question on art, he went to radio DJ Sara Cox for assistance.
Michael McIntyre, presenter and comedian, said, ‘Which of these artists has won the Turner Prize in the 21st century?’,
Grayson Perry, Tracey Emin, Damien Hirst, and Anish Kapoor constituted the four possible answers.
Toby, however, placed the burden of replying squarely on Sara’s shoulders, citing a compelling reason why he was likely not an authority on the subject.
‘It’s all on you this one,’ he told her. ‘Because I have no idea.’
‘Blind people don’t like art.’
‘I totally get it,’ Sara joked, before suggesting Grayson Perry as the answer to lock in, which Toby did… and it was the right one!
The gamer was nearly speechless when the studio went gold and it was revealed that he would be returning home significantly wealthier.
He approached Sara and thanked her for her assistance, promising to listen to her every day on BBC Radio 2.
During the joyful moment, the presenter grew clearly emotional and had to blink away tears.
Michael, the comedian, then pointed out the absurdity of the situation and praised Toby’s performance.
‘I can’t believe you have come on this wheel, you are a blind man, you have been given a question on art to win the show, you have hilariously pointed out, during the question, not a big fan of art, never actually seen it!’
Toby then laughed: ‘I tell you what, love art now! It’s my favourite.’
Michael then asked the winner to describe what he truly sees.
‘I am fully blind, or what we call fully blind,’ he shared.
‘There’s a spectrum so I’m 96% blind and I can see lights, so I can tell the studio lights are on, can’t see you (Michael), can’t see anyone around the wheel, so sorry if I was staring at you with weird eye contact. Not my fault.’
After being born visually handicapped due to a hereditary ailment that worsened with maturity and rendered him completely blind at the age of 16, he stated that he reacts only to sounds.
‘This is life-changing,’ he said of the prize money.
‘I’m so overwhelmed, honestly. I’m not an emotional person at all but I could cry. It’s hard to put into words.’
The Wheel continues next Saturday on BBC One.
