Bradley Walsh has claimed that The Larkins has not been cancelled, despite rumours to the contrary.
The Darling Buds of May adaptation was dropped by Love Island broadcaster ITV in the New Year due to a significant decline in watching rates.
The first episode of the first season had 4.8 million viewers, but the opening episode of the second season in October received only 2.9 million.
The Chase host, 62, acts as Pop alongside Joanna Scanlan’s Ma in the series, which is set in rural 1950s Kent and chronicles the lives of the marriage and their six children.
The Doctor Who actor addressed allegations that ‘the writing is on the wall’ for the drama on Tuesday’s This Morning via video link with his son Barney Walsh, 25.
Bradley argued that the watching ratings were ‘absolutely fine’ and ‘wonderful,’ adding that the second season ‘went well’ in comparison to the first.
Instead, he blamed the present lack of a third series on the fact that it requires a 14-week shoot, saying he ‘doesn’t have time to accomplish it.’
‘It’s down to me,’ he continued. ‘I don’t have time to do that. It’s not anything else. We’re trying to get a special.’
Singing The Larkins’ praises, Bradley added that the drama is a ‘fantastic, brilliant, heartwarming’ series.
Meanwhile, Barney spoke about his involvement in the BBC’s smash crime thriller Death in Paradise, following in his father’s footsteps.
He starred in the Christmas special with D.I. Neville Parker and his staff, stating of the experience: ‘I truly enjoyed making that. It was located in Guadelope. It was a pleasure to be in the sushine.
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
