Catherine Zeta-Jones has said that she was taken aback by Wednesday’s massive success, claiming that the Netflix series ‘came out better than anybody anticipated.
Jenna Ortega, 20, made her acting debut as Morticia Addams in the streaming platform’s adaptation of the Addams Family, a role famously performed by Christina Ricci in the 1990s films.
Catherine, 53, played her ethereal mother Morticia Addams, while Luis Guzmán played her smitten father Gomez Addams.
Wednesday, which has been renewed for a second season, has amassed the most viewers of any Addams Family-related media since the 1964 TV show’s premiere.
Catherine gushed about her on-screen daughter, Lorraine, in an interview with Ross King, the LA reporter for the ITV show, during Wednesday’s episode.
‘When [executive producer] Tim Burton asked me to do it, it was like, “Whatever you want me to do, Tim.” And then the idea of me playing Morticia, which is such an iconic, wonderful, juicy character, was wonderful,’ she said.

But it came out so much better than I believe everyone expected,” the Chicago star remarked. Because of Tim Burton’s vision, ‘ Jenna Ortega is just marvellous as Wednesday and through the eyes of Tim Burton, it’s a lot of fun.’
As she stood next to her husband Michael Douglas, 78, Catherine said, ‘I’m really happy to be part of it, I must say.’

Then Michael chimed in to say that his wife had “killed it” in the role of Morticia. An apt choice of words for the Ant-Man star!
Jenna thanked the people who helped bring Wednesday back for a second season through Twitter, writing, “Thanks to everyone who made this future season possible.” All of this seems almost unbelievable.
The supernatural series was nominated for two Golden Globes: one for best musical or comedy television series, and another for best actress in a musical or comedic television series, Jenna.
The lead actress has also been nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for best performance by a female actor in a comedy series, with the event scheduled for late February.
Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV. Wednesday is available to watch on Netflix.
