Following the release of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story on Netflix, audiences have fallen head over heals for a fresh new love story in the saga.
When Queen Charlotte (India Amarteifio) and King George III (Corey Mylchreest) first marry, their passionate romance lasts until their latter years, when they are played by Golda Rosheuvel and James Fleet.
While the Bridgerton prequel spin-off was intended to be a limited series, many fans are hoping for a season 2 because there is so much more of the royal couple’s life that may be revealed in future storylines.
So, will the programme return for a second season?
Shonda Rhimes addressed the notion in a recent interview, giving optimism that it isn’t too far-fetched a concept.
Could there be a Queen Charlotte season 2?
Shonda, who collaborated with Bridgerton author Julia Quinn on a new book on Queen Charlotte’s voyage, revealed that while there have been “questions” regarding a second season of the new spin-off, she is “not having conversations about it yet.”
Nonetheless, she provided some intriguing tidbits of information hinting that it may not be a firm nay in the future.
‘I could live with Charlotte and George forever, but we told a very specific, closed-ended story that I think is a complete tale of this complicated, imperfect love,’ she told Entertainment Weekly.
‘But I’m not ruling anything out because I never know.’
During a recent interview with Metro.co.uk, Golda also discussed whether she would return for future seasons of Queen Charlotte if the opportunity arose.
‘Opportunities, possibilities… I’m all for that, absolutely. I said the other day, wouldn’t it be great to see what Lady Featherington’s about? “Lady Featherington: A Bridgerton Story.” I think that’d be really cool. I think Polly [Walker] would be up for that, definitely,’ she answered.
‘There’s loads of characters in the world, in the ensemble that you can touch upon.
‘Is there more for us to see of Charlotte? I don’t know. That’s for people with bigger pay grades. I would say yes, without a doubt. I love her.’
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is available to watch on Netflix.
