Craig Doyle, the host of This Morning, was acting strangely on television today, and we think we know why.
The Irish host, 52, was on the warpath on the day before he departs for his summer vacation, poking fun at guests and even himself at points.
Craig recounted how he was ready to tap out of work and enjoy his time off as the show began, but his following three hours on air made for some fairly entertaining entertainment.
His first target was criminologist David Wilson, who appeared on the show to discuss the current BBC drama The Sixth Commandment.
The majority of the section was spent discussing the case that inspired the programme, but it was also emphasised that David’s book, A Plot to Kill, provides a thorough dive into Benjamin Field’s horrifying actions.
After expressing an interest in purchasing a copy, Craig made a subtle jab by informing the author he’d attempt to sell it.
‘If your book is in the 2 for 1 sale at the airport tomorrow, I will buy it for my holidays,’ he said.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, David joked that he’d just give Craig a free copy.
Later in the presentation, financial expert David Fishwick was also called out.
The hosts ran over the upcoming parts as an ad break approached, with David suggesting that he might help fans convert a ‘bucket into a Bentley’ by monetising their side hustle.
But it was his choice of outfit that caught Craig’s attention, telling the guest: ‘I’ll tell you what Dave. I don’t know if that button is going to last long my friend.’
‘Sorry but it’s just man-to-man. I feel like it’s just going to pop. Sorry mate, I love Dave though.’
Craig’s attitude became even more weird when he pocketed numerous crystals during a manifestation section, only to leave the studio audience gasping with a crude joke.
Coleen Nolan asked Craig and Josie when they last’master dated’ during the transfer to Loose Women.
While she did clarify that the practise was about spending quality time with others, Craig took advantage of the opportunity.
‘Now I know what you’re talking about. I master dated for about 45 minutes by myself last night,’ he quipped.
Other members of the studio audience burst out laughing at Craig’s clever remark, prompting loud gasps.
‘What? What’s happened,’ he smiled.
‘I took a book with me. I like eating alone. I’m not a weirdo,’ he added.
All the clues that Craig might have been part of an Ant and Dec prank
- He told an author he was going to buy a copy of his book at an airport sale
- He poked fun at a snug jacket worn by another guest
- He bizarrely started pocketing several crystals during a segment
- He pushed the boundaries with a cheeky joke about self-pleasure
- The final season of Saturday Night Takeaway is currently in production
Ant and Dec, the hosts of Saturday Night Takeaway, posted a photo on social media last month indicating that production on the final season of their long-running programme was presently beginning.
With their feature I’m a Celebrity… Get Out of My Ear!, the pranksters have used other presenters to perform their dirty job before. Previously, celebrities such as Louis Walsh were given a hidden earpiece and made to perform whatever they were ordered.
Back in 2014, the former X Factor judge welcomed tradesmen into his house, showing them a room filled with images of himself and referring to himself as the “King of Pop.”
He even pretended to call Dannii Minogue at one point in the session… But instead of a phone, it’s a banana.
With all indicators pointing to anything suspicious going on on screens today, if our suspicions are correct, Craig was clearly having a good chuckle before signing off.
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1.
