The moment Dan Walker was hit by a vehicle while riding his bike has been captured on video.
Earlier this week, the Channel 5 news anchor confessed he’d been in a car accident and, while his face was a’mess,’ he avoided breaking any bones.
He uploaded a photograph of his wounded and bruised face, as well as photos from inside an ambulance, in which he thanked the paramedics and police officer who assisted in his treatment.
The frightening collision was captured on the dashcam of another automobile, with the moment of contact now visible on film.
The 30-second video, acquired by The Sun, shows a guy identified as Dan riding his electric bike around a roundabout in Sheffield as the car begins to drift towards him as it approaches an exit.
Dan was cycling to catch a train to work at 8.30 a.m. when he was pushed off and into the path of the automobile.
The vehicle whose dashcam captured the film stated that they looked in their mirror after Dan was hit and saw him roll across the road.
‘It was quite shocking — certainly something you don’t see every day,’ they told the publication.
‘I checked the dashcam footage later and realised I had captured the moment. He’s lucky to be alive.’
They added: ‘Had the car carried on he would have been crushed beneath it.’
‘It doesn’t bear thinking about. I’m glad he’s OK. He’s such a lovely guy,’ they said.
Dan was asleep for 25 minutes following the collision and has no memory of what occurred.
While his watch and phone were damaged and his bike was a ‘mess’ Dan said he was thankful to ‘still be here’.
In the days afterwards the father-of-three has provided updates on how he is fairing, and also advised fellow riders to remember to wear a helmet, stating it ‘saved my life’.
Dan stated that the helmet he was wearing’saved my life,’ urged other riders to ‘get one on your head’ as well.
Dan was a broadcaster on BBC Breakfast from 2016 until 2022 and now hosts 5 News on Channel 5.
