Disney Plus subscribers were dissatisfied when they discovered they were being charged extra for their memberships.
The streaming service stated at the beginning of last month that it will raise the fee of using the platform.
The monthly charge was formerly £7.99 (equal to £95.88 over 12 months), however it was stated that it will be increased to £10.99 (equivalent to £131.88 over 12 months).
Subscribers will now pay an extra £36 per year for the extra £3 per month, while those who pay the yearly subscription ahead (which has gone from £79.90 to £109.90) will be charged an extra £30 throughout the year.
Many people were taken off guard lately when they noticed the additional price and instantly rushed to social media to vent their displeasure.
One customer sought guidance after posting a screenshot of their bill on X.
‘Does anyone here from the UK know if Disney Plus has risen in prices?? Cos idk why it says last payment £7.99 and now for some reason £10.99,’ Farhan Mehmood wrote.
‘Disney Plus and Netflix at £10.99/month. I just don’t use these services enough to warrant the new pricing. Time to cancel,’ Matthew White posted.
‘I don’t even watch Amazon Prime that much but it’s free with Prime membership. Apple One plan though gets used daily. You Tube is still king and free!’ he added.
Another user, Romy, added: ‘‘I just found out Disney Plus increased their price from €8.99 to €10.99 matching the one Apple TV is charging.
‘There was no communication. They lose subscribers and I raise their prices to keep revenue. Is it going to work?’
Many others indicated they were planning to or had already deleted their accounts, with one calling the 27% rise “delusory.”
‘Are Disney having a laugh. Just received notification price will increase from £7.99 to £10.99. Already cancelled,’ one former customer announced.
A user, Dionne, joked that now ‘all 15 people using my account are gonna have to chip in mate’.
When the price hike was revealed, it was announced Disney Plus was introducing a cheaper subscription worth £4.99, however it would come with adverts.
While the £7.99 standard plan does still exist – users can now only watch two devices, compared to the four devices previously available.
It is understood the price increase is automatic, however subscribers can change back to the standard price themselves.
