Despite ending after the fifth season, BBC Three sitcom Ghosts has been found to be the most anticipated Christmas special this year.
The popular programme, which debuted in 2018, stars You actress Charlotte Ritchie and Taskmaster’s Kiell Smith-Bynoe, as well as several Horrible Histories faves.
It follows Charlotte’s Alison and Kiell’s Mike as they suddenly acquire a beautiful rural house and discover that it is not only falling apart, but also haunted by spirits from the past.
Despite the fact that it will cease after the fifth season, it is reported to be the Christmas TV special that fans are most looking forward to this year.
According to a new research, Doctor Who, Call the Midwife, and Death in Paradise are the top three shows.
The study, done by online casino website CZR, utilised Google Keyword Planner to evaluate countrywide searches for this year’s upcoming Christmas specials from April to October to see which had received the most attention thus far, with Ghosts coming out on top with 9,600 searches.
The special has received 179% greater attention than the average recorded across the top studied shows, which is not surprising given that it is the series’ last episode.
Following David Tennant’s stunning comeback, Doctor Who ranks second with 5,860 searches.
The first trailer for the Christmas special previewed Big Brother icon Davina McCall‘s debut, while Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa will take over the Tardis for his first on-screen adventure.
Call The Midwife has garnered 2,370 searches over the last six months and will return for another Christmas special this year, while Death in Paradise is in fourth position with 2,170 searches.
Meanwhile, Strictly Come Dancing, which concluded on Saturday with Vito Coppola and Ellie Leach claiming the glitterball trophy, will return to our screens in a matter of days.
Danny Cipriani, Keisha Buchanan, and Dan Snow will perform in the Christmas special, with BBC Breakfast’s Sally Nugent and EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick rounding out the lineup alongside Tillie Amartey.
In the run-up to Christmas, the pre-recorded show, with the winner already leaked online, has been searched 1,170 times.
All Creatures Great and Small is in sixth position, while EastEnders is in seventh, with viewers eager to learn which Walford man has been slain by The Six.
The announcement that Ghosts will be ending left fans saddened.
In a statement published on the Ghosts team’s social media in March, it said: ‘After five incredible years haunting the halls of Button House, we have decided that the time is right to let our beloved sitcom Ghosts rest in peace.
‘We have just wrapped filming on our fifth and final series and we can’t wait to share it with you all later this year.
‘We could never have imagined the reception the show has enjoyed, or the fun we have had making it, and we would like to thank our amazing cast and crew as well as everyone at BBC Comedy, BBC1 and Monumental Television for their tireless support.’
Ghosts is available to stream on BBC iPlayer, with the Christmas special airing on Christmas Day on BBC One at 7.45pm.
