Dick and Angel Strawbridge of Escape To The Chateau have been labelled a ‘difficult to deal with’ after Channel 4 severed connections with the duo.
The original series concluded last year after nine seasons, but a spin-off called Escape to the Chateau: Secret France has been filmed; however, it is uncertain whether it will air after the inquiry.
Dick and Angel purchased a castle in 2015 that had no power, sewerage, or heating, and the show followed them as they renovated and restored it.
The pair is apparently under investigation for an unexplained cause, according to reports this week.
A spokesman for the broadcaster confirmed in a statement: ‘Following a review, we have taken the decision not to work with Dick and Angel on any new productions in the future.’
Production company Two Rivers Media also added: ‘We can confirm that we will no longer work with Dick and Angel and cannot comment further at the moment.’
According to recent accounts, Dick and Angel’s off-set behaviour has been nothing like their ‘beautiful’ on-screen personas.
A source shared: ‘Dick and Angel come across on screen as the most gorgeous and lovely couple, literally like butter wouldn’t melt, but they’re not like that off screen.’
The insider added to Mail Online: ‘There’s just spiky and volatile people – and as you can imagine, that’s a nightmare to work with.’
Following the statement from Channel 4, the Strawbridge’s outlined that despite reports the network decided to cancel the series, it was their decision.
‘You know what, we wanted to go out on a high,’ Angel said in October, as Dick added to The Guardian: ‘Rather than someone asking us to stop!’
They continued at the time: ‘There’s still so much to do in the house, we could probably go on for a few more years, but every year we’ve said to each other, does it feel right to do another series?
‘Because it’s not a format as such, it’s our family life. With Arthur being 10 in January and Dorothy being nine next year, it was a natural time to stop.’
Escape to the Chateau is available to watch on Channel 4.
