The first trailer for Tom Holland’s eerie new series, The Crowded Room, has been published, and we immediately have goosebumps.
The 10-part psychological thriller will premiere on Apple TV+ on June 9 and is claimed to be largely based on Billy Milligan’s 1979 arrest and Daniel Keyes’ following non-fiction book on his crimes.
Tom portrays Danny Sullivan and leads an A-list ensemble that includes Amanda Seyfried and Emmy Rossum, as well as Jason Isaacs and Christopher Abbott as guest actors.
The teaser opens with officer Rya Goodwin (Amanda) questioning him about a recent crime as he confesses to suffering memory lapses.
‘I have these blank spots,’ he tells her. ‘Sometimes I think that night marked me.
‘Everything that came afterwards couldn’t be a coincidence, could it?’
‘You don’t really seem like a dangerous person,’ she responds. ‘Can you tell me how you ended up here?’
In flashbacks, we witness people from Danny’s history disappear under inexplicable circumstances, with Danny firmly in the picture as the culprit.
As Rya grows increasingly desperate to solve the disappearances and clear his name, will she put herself in terrible danger?
Fans couldn’t get enough of the teaser and predicted Tom and Amanda’s award glory on Twitter.
‘This looks so good!! Amanda & Tom are killing it, can’t wait to watch,’ a viewer said.
‘Goosebumps everywhere,’ a follower agreed.
A Twitter user suggested: ‘Amanda coming for that EMMY again!’
‘TOM HOLLANDO EMMY WINNER [sic],’ another screamed.
As a commenter praised: ‘Tom is gonna serve so much, I know that.’
According to Variety, Tom’s character is vaguely based on Billy, who was arrested for the rape of three women in 1979.
He was diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder before the trial, which led to his lawyers successfully pleading insanity.
‘The Crowded Room follows Danny Sullivan, a man who is detained following his involvement in a shooting in New York City in 1979,’ according to the official description.
‘A captivating thriller told through a series of interviews with curious interrogator Rya Goodwin, Danny’s life story unfolds, revealing elements of the mysterious past that shaped him, and the twists and turns that will lead him to a life-altering revelation.’
The Crowded House will premiere on June 9 on Apple TV+.
