A hungry polar bear had no qualms about pouncing on a whale and tearing it to shreds in a vicious moment captured in a new wildlife documentary, Predators.
Narrated by Tom Hardy, the thrilling five-part series follows a different predator in the animal kingdom hunt down their prey and face the ultimate test of survival in drastically changing environments across the globe.
As well as lions in Botswana and cheetahs in Tanzania, polar bears in Canada are among the creatures struggling with climate change and the rapidly changing world, which are impacting the wild kingdoms they rule over.
In the upcoming Sky Nature episode, the majestic beasts are seen migrating across frozen landscapes in order to settle closer to where food, including seals and whales, live.
In the incredible minute-long sequence, an adult bear, named Ursa, is seen perched upon a rock out in the ocean as it surveys the water for a rather large snack in the form of a whale.
The Mad Max actor, 45, explains: ‘Silent and patient. Ursa waits. Timing is everything.’
A hoard of unsuspecting whales are then seen gathering at Ursa’s paws as he contemplates the next move.
The Revenant star continues: ‘Each passing whale presents just one chance. Belugas drift close to his rock. Unaware of the danger he presents.’
‘Ursa prepares to bounce. He must be deadly accurate,’ as the bear readies himself for the brutal attack.
Ursa then leaps into the water causing a huge splash to ripple through the ocean as he clutches onto his prey.
The poor whale is mauled as Ursa holds it steady between his paws, taking huge bites out of the marine mammal’s throat.
Presumably, the completely defenseless animal, who can’t muster the strength to defend itself, has filled a large hole in Ursa’s appetite.
Tom isn’t the only famous face involved in the landmark series with Strictly Come Dancing star Hamza Yassin also lending his talents.
The wildlife filmmaker was among the camera crew capturing close-up shots of the predators ahead of reportedly landing his own programme that will see him follow in the footsteps of Sir David Attenborough.
