It’s the beginning of a new era for Frasier Crane as the first table read has taken place for the impending remake.
Paramount Plus has ordered the series, marking Kelsey Grammer’s return to the role of everyone’s favourite radio psychiatrist over 20 years after the conclusion of the beloved comedy.
Little more is known about the narrative, however it is anticipated that the doctor will be surrounded by a new group of characters, with none of the previous gang likely to return.
In addition to Jess Salgueiro, Anders Keith, and Jack Cutmore-Scott (who will play Frasier’s son Frederick), the cast now includes Nicholas Lyndhurst.
With a now-deleted tweet, casting director Jeff Greenberg (who also worked on the original, Cheers, Modern Family, and Ugly Betty) offered us a sneak peek at what to expect.
After the first table read, he posted a photo of the screenplay online with the caption “And so it starts,” which has since been deleted. Again.’
Joe Cristalli and Chris Harris penned the pilot, and James Burrows helmed it.
After John Mahoney’s death in 2018, it will be renamed The Good Father, however it is unclear if this may possibly refer to Martin Crane.
Excited comments about the new episodes filled Jeff’s post when he announced the update.
A follower penned: ‘One of my favorite shows growing up!! Can’t wait to see where it goes!’
‘I’m just watching reruns right now,’ one commented. ‘This show has been such a go to comfort over the years.
‘Wishing you and all the team best of luck. And yes I do want to come and do an episode! Xx.’
Another said: ‘The tossed salads and scrambled eggs are calling again..!’
Some worried that by the time the programme aired, their feelings would have gotten the best of them.
‘I love Martin as a character and so sad he isn’t around anymore,’ a Twitter user penned. ‘I assume looking at the title it starts off explaining his ending and moves on to new beginnings. Very excited but will no doubt shed a few tears.’
As a fan added: ‘Please tell me that title isn’t referring to Martin, because if it is, I won’t make it through the episode without crying. My father sons, and I all shared such a love for the series.
‘We lost my dad in 2018, so if the first episode is about Martin, I won’t last.’
Frasier, a spin-off of the popular show Cheers, premiered in 1993 and quickly gained acclaim from viewers and critics alike.
It followed the doctor when he went back to Seattle for business and saw his family again, including his father Martin Crane (John Mahoney) and his brother.
A year ago, Kelsey let the cat out of the bag about the current state of preparations, admitting that he sobbed during a run-through of the pilot.
‘There are a couple of other things coming up,’ he said while appearing on The View. ‘We’ve developed a couple of other projects that look like they’re going to shoot first.’
‘We’re in the final stages of the final script for the first episode of the Frasier reboot. It looks pretty good.
‘I’ve had a couple of runs through it, and I’ve cried, so you know, I’m happy.’
