After his terrifying experience on Top Gear, Freddie Flintoff is apparently taking some time off from his TV commitments.
The 45-year-old was rushed to the hospital in December after getting into an accident on the show’s test track at Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey while filming for BBC One.
‘Freddie was injured in an accident at the Top Gear test track this morning – with crew medics attending the scene immediately,’ a spokesperson said at the time.
‘He has been taken to hospital for further treatment and we will confirm more details in due course.’
The father of four was evacuated to the hospital following the tragedy, and his 16-year-old son Corey subsequently said that his dad was “lucky to be alive.”
The international cricketer is reportedly putting his TV career on hold as he recovers from the tragedy.
An insider shared: ‘The full extent of his injuries will surprise many people, as the details of what happened have yet to fully emerge.’
‘He is putting his career on hold until he is in a better place mentally and physically, and can’t say when he will return to making TV shows.’
According to The Sun, Flintoff’s loved ones have also urged him to leave Top Gear permanently.
Recently, Flintoff’s friends have said that the TV star is reconsidering his decision to replace Jeremy Clarkson as presenter of the BBC car show.
According to The New York Times, his friends say the accident “psychologically traumatised” him and makes him doubtful about returning to the work.
The event was looked into by both the BBC and the Health and Safety Executive of the United Kingdom last year.
A statement issued read: ‘Our primary concern is and has been for the welfare of Freddie – as well as the Top Gear team. All health and safety procedures were followed on site and the incident is now being fully investigated, in line with standard policy and practice.’
