This week’s episode of The Apprentice included one of the show’s most memorable challenges: the surviving contestants had to find the lowest prices for a set of goods.
Participants drove to Brighton for week 4 and then spent their time aimlessly wandering the city in search of the week’s needed items, which ranged from a trug basket to a nautical barometer.
Not only did they have to worry about getting everything they needed in time, but they also had to make sure that everything they bought was exactly as described.
Denisha Kaur Bharj, the project manager whose team lost in the end, described the frantic assignment and her encounter with Lord Alan Sugar in the boardroom.
Nobody wants to go, but we have go because of the money. She said, “Just getting ready and starting the process is a lot of labour.
Referencing fellow candidates Mark Moseley and Reece Donnelly, who she brought back into the boardroom with her as the trio individuals at risk of being eliminated, she added: ‘Mark and Reece are really lovely, and I know they just worked really hard on the task as much as it didn’t go well. I didn’t really want to see them go home either.’
While her team lost, one of the reasons being that they incurred a fine, there was a moment when Karren Brady and Tim Campbell were revealing the results that Denisha thought there was a possibility that her team had snagged the win.
Her team bought the wig that was on the list for a far cheaper price than the opposing team… but it wasn’t quite enough to secure the victory.
‘The whole day was crazy. We were really working so hard to try and get all the items on the list. I think the negotiation I did with the wigs, at that point when Lord Sugar did announce what the other team had paid for their wigs, I was like, “Ooh, maybe we’ve got this,”’ she recalled.
‘It was a good day, apart from running up and down Brighton Pier. I wasn’t expecting that.’
The entrepreneur said, “Yeah, because it was a really big difference with what the other team had paid.” when asked whether she believed at that point that maybe her team had won.
‘But obviously where they had obviously managed to get all the items, we hadn’t got all the items and I think one of them was incorrect, we got a fine.’
Denisha was sad to leave at that stage, but she was appreciative that Lord Sugar “saw the person I am” and that Karren had commended her negotiation abilities in front of the whole board.
‘I definitely think when Karen saw me negotiating, that was really good because she actually highlighted that too in the boardroom to Lord Sugar. So that was really nice, being able to showcase the negotiation I did,’ she said. ‘I think I definitely showcased myself throughout the whole process.’

Denisha, a businesswoman, plans to welcome a new member of the family into the world while simultaneously releasing a new product, lash shampoo.
‘I’m going to be launching my new product, the lash shampoo, for lash extensions and strip lashes. I’m hoping to get into Boots and Superdrug, into the big high street stores as well,’ she explained.
‘While I’m building that I’m actually expecting as well, so we’re building a family as well. So there’s a lot, it’s been a crazy year. When I left the process and they asked me how I felt at that point, I was saying to them everything happens for a reason. So you do your best and you can only hope to get so far.’
Denisha is preparing for the arrival of her first child by working with her suppliers to place orders and browsing baby goods at the same time.
I’ve been perusing baby supplies and wondering, “What do you get?” and “What nappies are these?” and so on. Yesterday, we went shopping for buggies. She said, “Oh my gosh, the number of buggies is… crazy!”
The Apprentice returns next Thursday at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
