Fans of Gogglebox were upset when Julie Malone revealed the loss of their family dog Dave, and many were dissatisfied with his farewell appearance on the Channel 4 show.
After joining the cast of the Channel 4 show in 2014, the Malone family, including their loving dogs, have provided us nearly a decade of joy on TV.
While Tom Malone Jr. opted to leave the show in 2020, his siblings Shaun and Vanessa, as well as his parents Tom Sr. and Julie, have remained and are regularly joined by grandkids and their cute pets.
However, the family recently posted a heartbreaking update, revealing that their dog Dave has died.
In today’s episode of Gogglebox, a little homage was given to Dave at the very beginning of what was regrettably his final ever programme, as a cute video of the Rottweiler was aired. However, not all fans were impressed.
In the video, he jumps up to Tom Sr, who appears to be frightened when the bouncing dog’s paws land on his crotch. As Shaun and Julie cackled with delight, a glass was knocked over and soaked their TV remote.
This was the final Gogglebox episode featuring the mutt, and fans were expecting a little more of a tribute.
One took to X/Twitter, and wrote, ‘Aw, we’ll all miss you Dave!’ while another said: ‘Dave’s final appearance, gone but never forgotten.’
One fan expressed with dissatisfaction, as they wrote: ‘REALLY disappointed you didn’t show a tribute of “Dave’s best bits” at the end of the show. Dave truly deserved it, for all the laughter he gave to his fans. I know you started with a brilliant clip of Dave. it wasn’t enough RIP.’

Another said: ‘Where was the dedication to Dave at the end #Gogglebox ? Feeling disappointed.’
‘#Gogglebox surely had enough time to prepare an In Memoriam slate for Dave,’ said another.
Someone else voiced the same feeling: ‘Was waiting for Dave’s best bits at the end of Gogglebox as a tribute. Very disappointed #Gogglebox.’
Julie also took to social media earlier today to further express her devastation after thanking fans for their support.
She said: ‘He gave us love, and we loved him until the very end.
‘He wasn’t in any pain, it was nice and peaceful.’
‘Big thank you for all your comforting words,’ she added.
Breaking down into tears, Julie went on: ‘I’m so sorry, I didn’t want to do this, didn’t want to cry.
‘Thanks very much, your words really do mean a lot.’

Julie’s post was showered in support, with a fan page writing: ‘He definitely was a character so many moments that just made you laugh.’
Someone else said: ‘Sleep tight Dave 😢 mighty character condolences to you an all the family , its heartbreaking beyond words when we have to say goodbye.’
In a post shared on Instagram earlier this week, Julie had announced that the family had suffered the devastating loss of Dave, writing: ‘RIP Dave xxx
‘‘There are no words to describe you, or how much you meant to us. This was you on Sunday waiting for your Dad to come back and he had only gone out to the car x
‘We are all going to miss you so much💔💔💔💔💔💔💔🐾🐾🐾🐾.’
Gogglebox airs on Fridays at 9pm on Channel 4.
