Nobody likes alarm clocks, but one variety in particular is the torment of Ben Shephard’s existence.
The Tipping Point host is usually cool and collected, but on Friday’s broadcast of Good Morning Britain, he lost his cool and launched into a diatribe against alarm clocks.
Ben, 48, has a particular aversion to sunrise alarm clocks, which, rather than ringing at a certain time, gradually brighten over the period of an hour or two.
The concept is that the individual wakes up more naturally rather than being abruptly awoken by a high-pitched alarm, but Ben is not a fan, to put it mildly.
Complaining about the product – which his wife is a fan of – on Friday’s episode, he raised his voice as he pleaded: ‘JUST TURN THE BLOODY LIGHT ON.’
‘It’s the most infuriating thing, it takes forever for her to wake up and turn it off! It takes maybe 20 minutes for it to maybe get to the full brightness, and by then I’m furious and I’m wide awake and I’m like FOR GOODNESS SAKE, WILL YOU JUST TURN THE LIGHT OFF!
He added wearily: ‘Apparently it’s supposed to be calming.’
Co-host Kate Garraway was thrilled by Ben’s reaction, remarking that his face had ‘gone brilliant red with wrath,’ and addressing his wife Annie, saying, ‘glad to know the things that make you happy irritate Ben.’
Fans of the show found the out-of-character outburst humorous, with several agreeing with him on social media.
Kate read out numerous responses on-air, with one viewer saying they’d “never seen Ben so angry,” and another saying they despised the clocks, which have been popular in recent years.
The hectic portion follows the turmoil of Thursday’s broadcast, in which two presenters made Inappropriate gaffes early in the morning.
Andi Peters made the gaffe the first time Kate announced the competition, stating she had the ‘largest prize of the year thus far.’
‘I did wonder what you were going to say, he’s got the biggest… wahey!’ he said.
Later, Richard Arnold was discussing his conversation with Last of Us star Pedro Pascal, but instead of saying’success,’ he told the studio that he had spoken to Pedro ‘about his sex-‘ before instantly apologising and laughing.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV and ITVX
