Laura Adlington, a contestant on the Great British Bake Off, has responded to cruel claims that she is pushing fat.
The 33-year-old woman was a finalist on the show’s 2020 season. She loves baking.
Laura has now said that mean comments blaming her of “promoting fat” have been aimed at her, and she says that trolls have made her feel “battered.”
This week, the star wrote on Instagram that she was “really fighting right now” and had been for “a little while.”
She said she had ‘fallen out of love with [Instagram] and the superficialness of it all.’
‘I’ve also been feeling really s*** since finding out some people in my life “don’t agree” with what I’m doing and think I’m “promoting obesity”. Pretty hard to hear it from strangers on the internet, let alone people in your extended family.’
‘I just feel a bit battered to be honest,’ she admitted.
Here is one way to rewrite the last answer, along with an idea to change it:
‘I know people often follow posts like this with “I’m not after sympathy”…but as I’ve been very open and vulnerable I’ll continue to be honest and say…some sympathy would be really lovely right now.’
She went on to thank fans for the ‘love and all your support,’ adding they will ‘never know what it means to me.’
Fans rushed to the comments section to show Laura the support she needed. One person said they were “angry” that Laura had been accused of pushing fat.

‘It literally makes NO SENSE,’ they wrote. ‘I really appreciate you being here.’
Another said they were ‘so sorry’ to hear what Laura had been going through, saying ‘it speaks volumes to the honesty that you offer here that you have the strength to talk about it at all.’
And as one person put it: ‘Big difference between promoting obesity and promoting body acceptance. You’re lovely and encouraging.’
Laura often posts photos of her clothes with body-positive messages on Instagram. For example, she told her fans to “wear the shorts, wear the dress, wear whatever the bloody hell you want.” You might die tomorrow.
During her time on the show, the 2020 GBBO contestant was called the most “relatable” contestant ever because people liked her attitude and the fact that she cried into a freezer when her dish didn’t turn out the way she had planned.
