The nominees for the 2023 Emmys have been made public, and Succession is already making history before the event.
Yvette Nicole Brown was there today to name the people who might win the prizes. The awards will be given out on September 18.
Unsurprisingly, the intense HBO Max drama won the most awards, a total of 27 of them, including the prized best drama award.
Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin, and Jeremy Strong are all in the running for best performance. This is the first time in history that three stars from the same show are all in the running.
They will be competing against Better Call Saul’s Bob Odenkirk, The Last of Us’s Pedro Pascal, and The Old Man’s Jeff Bridges.
The best supporting actor award is a tie between The White Lotus and Succession. Matthew MacFadyen, Alan Ruck, Alexander Skarsgard, and Nicholas Braun have all been nominated, as have Theo James, Michael Imperioli, F. Murray Abraham, and Will Sharpe.
In the category for best performance, Sarah Snook was praised for her work as Shiv Roy. She will compete against Keri Russell for The Diplomat, Elisabeth Moss for The Handmaid’s Tale, Bella Ramsey from The Last of Us, Melanie Lynskey from Yellowjackets, and Sharon Horgan from Bad Sisters.
Also, Jennifer Coolidge, Aubrey Plaza, Sabrina Impacciatore, Simona Tabasco, Meghann Fahy, and J. Smith-Cameron are all in the running for outstanding supporting actress in a drama series, along with Rhea Seehorn for Better Call Saul and Elizabeth Debicki from The Crown.
Jenna Ortega got her first Emmy nomination for best lead actor in a comedy series for her role as Wednesday in the hugely popular Netflix show.
Also in the same group are Christina Applegate, Rachel Brosnahan, Quinta Brunson, and Natasha Lyonne.
Jason Sudeikis is up against Bill Hader, Jason Segel, Martin Short, and Jeremy White Allen for the award for star in a comedy series. The competition is tough.
Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story was nominated for best limited series, and Evan Peters was nominated for best lead character in a limited series or movie. This is more good news for Netflix.
Daniel Radcliffe was nominated for the same award for his funny part in Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, along with Taron Egerton from Black Bird, Steven Yeun from Beef, Michael Shannon from George & Tammy, and Kumail Nanjiani from Welcome to Chippendales.
Ali Wong, who played Steven’s Beef co-star, was nominated for lead actress in a limited series or movie, along with Lizzy Caplan for Fleishman is in Trouble, Jessica Chastain for George & Tammy, Kathryn Hahn for Tiny Beautiful Things, Dominique Fishback for Swarm, and Riley Keough for Daisy Jones & The Six.
The 75th annual Emmy awards will take place on September 18, 2023.
