Guy Martin, a Channel 4 celebrity, was shot, abducted, and tortured while filming his new programme.
The 41-year-old daredevil, who was a motorcycle racer and heavy vehicle technician before becoming a presenter, has become recognised for his death-defying antics over the years, but this may be his scariest yet.
Guy was filming in Colombia for his current show Our Guy In Colombia when he was subjected to a terrifying drug cartel test in an attempt to demonstrate that the country has moved on from its drug industry.
He was surprised by the quantity of violence he saw on his travels, and he visited the body armour firm MC Armour at one point.
According to the Mirror, he puts on the bulletproof garment and even gets shot in the stomach to ensure that it works.
‘I’ve never been shot. Maybe buggering about with pellet guns, and mucking about, yes. But not proper ammunition. They are not messing about here,’ he said.
Teasing the person pulling the trigger, he quipped: ‘It’s your idea. So if I did, it’s your fault.’
Despite his injuries, he returned home with the crushed bullet as a souvenir of the trip.
He joked: ‘Thank you, that was amazing. Come to Colombia and get shot.’
In the documentary, he also stated that two individuals are kidnapped in the nation every week, and that over 12,000 people are killed each year.
Guy also undergone the same intensive training that Colombian officials must do in the event that they are abducted, and after 40 seconds in the torture chamber, he begged the ‘gunmen’ to stop.
‘I’ve heard of water-boarding before. You know, you’ve got a mask and you’re chucking water at them, but you’re not drowning,’ he said, confessing that he has a new perspective now.
He added: ‘That’s what I used to think. Not now.’
Despite the anguish and horror he endured, the presenter stated that he had just encountered a “small sample” of what others in the nation go through.
He explained: ‘You need that air. I am drowning and I am f***ing talking – what do you want to know? But I’ve still only had a small, tiny, tiny snippet of Colombian violence.’
In other images from the documentary, he sampled liquid cocaine, joined police on narcotics searches, and got a close-up look at terrible poverty.
Despite everything he went through for the show, Guy said he had “the incorrect notion” about Colombia and would happily return in the future.
‘I came here with completely the wrong idea,’ he said. ‘So 100 per cent I’ll be back – no question.’
Our Guy In Colombia is coming to Channel 4 on July 23.
