Love Island has officially back for 2023, which means that many of us around the country have succumbed to the knowledge that we’ll be glued to our TVs (as well as Twitter for the memes) virtually every day at 9pm.
The winter series features a brand new villa in South Africa as well as a changing of the guard, with Maya Jama taking over as presenter from her predecessor Laura Whitmore.
Maya made her series debut in the opening episode, bringing the first batch of boys to the girls as the first pairings formed.
Because of their chemistry and mutual love for Harry Potter, Ron Hall and Lana Jenkins are already being considered as potential victors.
Kai Fagan piqued the interest of both Anna-May Robey and Olivia Hawkins before electing to recouple with Tanya Manhenga in the show’s first major reshuffling.
With all eyes on the islanders and the series’ presenter, here are some Maya facts you may not have known.
How old is Maya Jama?
Maya is 28 years old, and her most recent birthday was on August 14.
Last year, a day before her birthday, she posted on Instagram that her birthday weekend had begun.
She reproduced a viral video of a young child who couldn’t contain her enthusiasm when being dropped off at school in the tape.
Several people, including artist Tinie Tempah and former Love Island contestant Amber Gill, wished her a happy birthday in the post’s comments area.
‘Happy birthday r kid,’ added footballer Jesse Lingard at the time, while radio presenter Chris Stark wrote: ‘Hahaha go on maya. Happy Birthday! X.’
How tall is the Love Island host?
Maya confirmed her true height in a tweet seven years ago when a fan mentioned that she was shorter than they had assumed.
‘@MayaJama just walked past me at Baker Street station and rah she’s shorter than I thought,’ they wrote.
‘I’m 5’8 how tall did you think I was???’ she responded incredulously, alongside a cry-laughing emoji.
Maya stated in another tweet in May 2021 that she is 5’8 and a half, but because she enjoys wearing heels, she often appears to be 6ft.
Love Island returns tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
