Fans of I’m A Celebrity… South Africans struggled to keep their meals down as they watched the first bushtucker trial on Tuesday night.
Ant and Dec entered camp to explain the star-studded line-up of participants what was in store for their second day in the jungle, kicking off the season’s roster of tasks.
The presenting pair received a dagger when they declared that the stars would be eating unsavoury animal body parts to win meals for their campmates.
The sad celebs made their way to a separate area and took their seats ahead of the trial, having chosen American model Janice Dickinson, 68, and Diversity dance troupe member Jordan Banjo, 30.
As part of the challenge, Jordan gagged and spat up bits of animal anus.
The two earned five stars at the camp for refusing to eat three dessert-style plates, but followers online couldn’t help but comment on how ‘sick’ the experience had been.
One penned: ‘This is disgusting – reminds me of the time I tried eating tripe! [sic].’
Another said: ‘Crying with laughter at Jordan! He’s brilliant. He knows he’s going to gag … But he gives it a good go! [sic].’
‘The eating challenges are just the worst,’ a social media user exclaimed on Twitter.
Jordan and Janice’s eating experiment occurred after Gillian McKeith’s surprising appearance on the all-star event surprised the camp, particularly artist Shaun Ryder, who regularly battled with the TV personality on the original I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2010.
According to overnight figures, the first edition of the pre-recorded show drew an average of 4.3 million TV viewers.
Last year’s edition of the original format saw former England footballer Jill Scott crowned queen of the jungle.
Instead of crowning a king or queen of the jungle, competitors vie for the title of I’m A Celebrity… Legend as they endure a series of trials.
I’m A Celebrity… South Africa continues on Tuesday on ITV1 and ITVX.
