From Smithy’s rage over sharing an Indian takeout to flirting granny Doris and Gwen’s insistence on always creating omelettes, Gavin and Stacey literally live in our thoughts rent-free.
Now, in exciting news for fans, creators James Corden and Ruth Jones, who played Smithy and Nessa, respectively, have met up.
Although he did not affirm that anything will happen, he did provide a ray of optimism.
We’re content with optimism for the time being.
James, 44, said: ‘In truth, Ruth and I met up at Christmas.’
He added: ‘And I know it will be a disappointment, but we didn’t talk about it in life-growing forms.’
Instead, the two talked about who they’d lately contacted from the BBC series’ cast.
Larry Lamb and Rob Brydon collaborated with Joanna Page and Matthew Horne to bring the narrative of two families from Billericay and Barry Island merging to life.
‘It is whether we decide to get into a room together and honestly I could not tell you what the chances are of that. We both have to be ready and right,’ he explained to The Sun.
The show’s final episode, which debuted in 2007, was a Christmas special in 2019. We’d want to know what occurs next when Nessa proposes to Smithy.
Unfortunately, James and Ruth, 56, do not function well together when they are physically apart, and they are fully aware of this.
‘We tried it when I was in New York with The History Boys and we tried it over Skype, and we couldn’t do it,’ he explained.
‘I love it here. It’s been a brilliant adventure,’ James told Adele.
‘But I’m just so certain that it’s time for us as a family, with people getting older and people that we miss, it’s time to go home.’
At the very least, now that James is back in the UK, getting in a room together will be simpler.
James is departing The Late Late Show, which is based in Los Angeles, after eight years as host.
Of course, he had to first shoot his farewell Carpool Karaoke, which included guest Adele.
