In a new interview with Diane Sawyer, Jeremy Renner sobbed as he described his terrifying snow plough mishap.
On New Year’s Day, the Marvel actor was crushed by his plough after leaping into action to save his cousin, Alex, who was in the path of the vehicle.
The 52-year-old was taken to the hospital after the event, where he was treated for 14 fractured ribs, eye socket injury, and a collapsed lung caused by a ‘piercing’ from a bone.
In a clip from his first interview with Good Morning America, he revealed that he would have perished if those around him had not gotten assistance when they did.
‘If I was there, on my own, that would’ve been a horrible way to die. And surely, I would’ve. Surely,’ he told Diane.
‘But I wasn’t alone. My nephew, sweet Alex, and the rest of the calvary came.’
The host mentioned Jeremy writing a farewell letter for his family while in the hospital, which made the Marvel actor cry.
‘I’m taking notes in my phone, my final remarks to my family,’ he explained before pausing to collect himself.
Despite the severe destruction, Jeremy stated in an earlier video that he would “do it again” because the plough was “going right at my nephew.”
‘Eight ribs broken in 14 places, right knee, right ankle broken, left leg tibia broken, the left ankle broken, right clavicle broken, right shoulder broken,’ Diane said in the special, which will broadcast on April 6.
‘Face, eye socket, the jaw, the mandible broken, lung collapsed, pierced from the rib bone, your liver. Sounds terrifying.’
When asked if he sees the same face in the mirror now, the Hawkeye actor added: ‘No, I see a lucky man.
‘I’ve lost a lot of flesh and bone in this experience, but I’ve been refueled and refilled with love and titanium.’
Jeremy was admitted to the hospital in early January and has been posting updates on his recuperation on social media.
He is gradually returning to normalcy, and will be attending a gathering for his upcoming Rennervations initiative in Los Angeles next week, signalling his return to the public view.
He recently disclosed how important his daughter, Ava, with wife Sonni Pacheco, had been to his efforts.
Taking to Instagram, he shared a picture to mark her milestone birthday last week, penning: ‘Happy 10th Birthday to you!!!! So very proud of you in every way. Your hugs and your love, have healed me so incredibly fast.
‘I stand up for you, and I am stronger than before because of you. I am your Father, I am your protector, and I am only yours. I love you, daddy.’
Jeremy Renner: The Diane Sawyer Interview – A Story of Terror, Survival and Triumph will air on April 6 on ABC.
