Jodie Whittaker is said to have landed another major part with the BBC.
The 40-year-old actress, who portrayed the eponymous character in the science-fiction series Doctor Who for five years before leaving in 2022, is expected to appear in the second season of Time.
Jodie is said to be portraying a prisoner in Jimmy McGovern’s jail drama, with an insider claiming it’s a ‘fantastic part’ in a show that’s already proven a success. While Jodie’s Time Lord character was quite heroic, spending many episodes time-traveling in order to save the world, her newest endeavour is more grounded in reality.
The source told The Sun that it was a ‘massive departure for her’, before adding that it’s ‘exactly the sort of challenging part Jodie would have wanted’.
Time’s first three-part series featured Sean Bean as a prisoner struggling with remorse over his crime and Stephen Graham as a jail official attempting to safeguard those in power.

It received two Bafta Awards and was well received by viewers.
In a review, it was described as: ‘A gritty prison-based drama, that’s going to draw you in from the beginning. It is a high-stakes representation of life in the modern British correctional system, as seen through the eyes of two very different individuals.’
Those looking forward to the sequel will have to wait a little longer, as the award-winning show will not begin production until spring, before debuting on our television displays in 2024.
Jodie has an already impressive resume, having become the first woman to portray the lead part in Doctor Who.
When it came to saying farewell to the famous character, she was overcome with emotion, telling the Big Issue, ‘Before they even finished verifying the last take of the last scene, I was in pieces.
‘Even when we wrapped on a corridor we would always run down or did the last costume checks with the person who’s stood by you through all this time. You know, even my last lateral flow test was emotional!’
The talented Ncuti Gatwa, famed for his role as Eric Effiong on Sex Education, will be taking over as Doctor Who.
The first series of Time is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
