Fellow Travellers, Jonathan Bailey and Matt Bomer’s new LGBTQ+ drama, has released its debut teaser, and it promises, literally, pyrotechnics.
The Bridgerton actor, 35, and the Magic Mike actress, 45, play Tim Laughlin, an idealistic and pious guy, and Hawkins Fuller, a charismatic and political man, who begin a secret relationship in McCarthy-era Washington.
The trailer for the highly anticipated Paramount Plus show opens with Matt and Jonathan strolling down a corridor towards one another, with the world abruptly slowing down when they lock eyes.
The video transitions to fireworks as they stare at each other, followed by a sequence of sensual scenes from their relationship, such as snuggling in bed, sneaking a kiss in an alleyway and posing for photographs at the beach.
The 30-second teaser then swings back to them walking down the corridor, each going their own way, but grinning from ear to ear.
According to the narrative, Tim and Hawkins start dating just as Joseph McCarthy and Roy Cohn wage war on’subversives and sexual deviants,’ ushering in one of the darkest moments in American history.
The protagonists meet through the Vietnam War demonstrations of the 1960s, the drug-fueled disco hedonism of the 1970s, and the AIDS epidemic of the 1980s, all while battling hurdles in the world and inside themselves.
Fellow Travellers, created by Homeland’s Ron Nyswaner, also stars Allison Williams from Girls and Get Out, Jelani Alladin from The Walking Dead, and Noah J Ricketts from American Gods.
In addition to Fellow Travellers, Jonathan will be in the film adaptation of the musical Wicked, which will be released in 2024.
He most recently appeared as a judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race and in the West End in Cock.
Meanwhile, Matt was seen filming Maestro in New York alongside Carey Mulligan and Bradley Cooper last year. The film is set to be released later this year.
Fellow Travelers premieres on Paramount Plus in autumn.
