When Joshua Malina intimated that a revival of The West Wing might be in the works, fans went crazy.
The 57-year-old played Will Bailey in the political thriller developed by Aaron Sorkin and shown on NBC from 1999 to 2006.
The series, which also starred Rob Lowe and Allison Janney, was set in the West Wing of the White House under President Josiah Bartlet’s fake democratic administration (Martin Sheen).
While the critically praised show ended more than a decade ago, The Big Bang Theory star has fueled talk that it could be resurrected.
‘Got back on Twitter just in time to discuss about The West Wing remake,’ the Scandal star posted on Twitter. ‘Details to follow!’
Naturally, fans of The West Wing were ecstatic about the potential of a return, but they were wary of getting too happy until it was formally verified by a broadcaster.
‘I’ll believe it when I see it,’ one fan commented, while another remarked: ‘Please please please please let this be real.’
‘Wait what,’ a third questioned, which was followed up by ‘Don’t fall for it!’ by a social media user.
As many speculated on the idea, many others simply hoped Joshua wasn’t playing them.
One fan’s theory was as follows: ‘Hell yeah!! I’ve been tweeting about this for a while. My thought is Josh recruits Sam to run for President against a Trump like candidate. Get the whole cast together even John Spenser using stock footage. Let’s get this going!!’
The West Wing’s most recent reunion was in 2020, when the cast came together to encourage people to vote in a one-time special.
The ensemble re-enacted the Hartsfield’s Landing episode from season three, in which Sheen played chess with his staff members while engaging in a much larger mental fight with China.
Whitford’s deputy chief of staff, Josh, was preoccupied with the outcome of a precarious primary race in a small New England town.
The special was shot at downtown Los Angeles’ historic Orpheum Theatre in support of Michelle Obama’s When We All Vote organisation.
Aaron described the show as ‘sort of a tribute to voting’.
