In a fresh update, Kate Garraway confirms that her husband Derek Draper is back in the hospital.
Derek, 56, is still in need of full-time care after having major problems with Covid-19 in 2020.
Kate, 56, appeared on Loose Women on Thursday and gave an update on her husband’s health while also singing the praises of carers in honour of Carer’s Rights Day.
The purpose of the day is to raise awareness of unpaid carers and their rights, which Kate accomplished well this week.
Touching upon Derek’s return to hospital, the mum-of-two said: ‘He’s actually back in the hospital at the moment, I haven’t talked about this, but not the horrific drama fortunately, because there have been lots of referrals and cancellations.’
She added: ‘He’s gone back in for something that began last year that he needed the second part of.
‘So, it’s a positive hospital thing, but hopefully won’t be in for too long.’
Kate was also promoting her new book, The Strength of Love, in which she chronicles Derek’s lengthy path to recovery as well as the hardships of being his caretaker.
Announcing the book in September on Instagram, Kate wrote in part: ‘I must admit it has been so tough to write but that’s because I have had to go into some of my darkest thoughts and experiences, but I also wanted it to be a positive read for you too.
‘I have so much to be thankful for and so many people have shared so much love with me and my family, and I really wanted to share something helpful back.’
She added: ‘This book is about Derek’s ongoing battle to take back control of his body and mind, the amazing people who have helped us along the way and how love in all its forms can pull you to the brink one moment, and lift you up the next.’
Kate frequently discusses her life as a caretaker for her husband, with whom she has two children, and how his health is developing.
She’s also produced two documentaries on Derek: Finding Derek and Caring for Derek.
