During an appearance on This Morning, Kelsey Grammer was perplexed by Alison Hammond’s abrupt interruption of his response.
The Frasier star was enjoying a pleasant conversation with Alison and co-host Dermot O’Leary, who always hosts the show on Fridays, when Alison abruptly informed him that they would have to take an emergency commercial break.
Alison, 48, had an unexpected outburst after receiving an unusual message in her ear.
‘Unfortunately, we have a little bit of an issue,’ she said Kelsey. We will have to throw to break.’
The 68-year-old actor then leaned back in his chair, took a glance around the studio, and said, ‘Oh.’
‘We’ll see you very soon,’ Alison said, and the trio sat in silence as the cameras continued to roll.
Dermot, 49, jumped in to break the awkward silence.
He said: ‘We’ve been told we had a little issue in our ears, but now we’ve been told that we’re back.’
The group then busted out laughing at the unique scenario before proceeding with the interview. That’s live television for you!
Kelsey informed Dermot and Alison what he knew about the Frasier relaunch, promising that there will be some familiar characters as well as new ones to fall in love with. Little is known about the narrative at the moment because Paramount+ is holding its cards close to their chests.
The comedy is returning after a 20-year hiatus, and fans were thrilled to learn that some familiar faces will be returning: Peri Gilpin will reprise her role as the renowned Roz Doyle, while Bebe Neuwirth will reprise her role as Lilith Sternin. While Nicholas Lyndhurst has joined the cast, he will appear with Jess Salgueiro, Anders Keith, and Jack Cutmore-Scott as Frasier’s son, Frederick.
Dermot complimented Kelsey on creating such an iconic role, and he responded: ‘You just hope that you’ve done something that matters if you’ve decided on a life of service.’
He then compared his own career to his fictional character, who works as a radio psychiatrist: ‘What’s odd is the character of Frasier has done that [something that matters]. He wanted to serve people, and make their lives better,’ he explained.
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
