Adrian Dunbar has confirmed the Line Of Duty crew recorded extra bits for campaign group Led By Donkeys’ videos criticising both Cressida Dick and Boris Johnson.
Dunbar, 64, has portrayed DSI Ted Hastings for 10 years in the hit BBC drama, Line of Duty.
Over recent months, he has reprised the iconic role for a series of viral videos from the group Led by Donkeys.
Established in December 2018, Led By Donkeys is famously anti-Brexit, and has also criticised other actions of Mr Johnson’s government and the former Metropolitan Police Commissioner’s work.
But with fans unsure as to whether Dunbar and his co-stars, Vicky McClure, 39, and Martin Compston, 38, were really recording extra bits for the savage videos, Dunbar has confirmed they were indeed responsible.
He told The Times that creator Jed Mercurio was contacted by the pressure group to get involved with the spoofs.

‘We did record stuff. [Led by Donkeys] contacted Jed, and he told us, “These guys are really good. Would you record this and that?”
‘So we did and I think they treated it a bit so it kind of sounds like us, but might not be.
‘It was very good. It didn’t quite get rid of Johnson then, but it got rid of Cressida Dick.’
Dick’s resignation did please Dunbar, as he added: ‘She gave us a terrible review [in Radio Times], saying the series was completely wrong about everything. She really didn’t like us! Luckily lots of other people did.’
Late last year, the trio returned as the AC-12 squad after it emerged the Prime Minister and other senior figures had been fined over the partygate scandal.
Previous skits involving the much-loved characters include a clip in December calling out the Met Police for its response to the famous scandal.
Another saw the trio come for Boris Johnson once again over Russian influence in government during the war in Ukraine.
Line of Duty has so far run for six seasons, since 2012, with fans hoping it will make a return for a seventh season at some point in the future.
Line of Duty can be streamed in full now on BBC iPlayer.
