*Warning: Contains spoilers for Loki season 2.*
Thursday night was a dismal and unhappy one for Marvel Cinematic Universe viewers, as Loki orchestrated two of the franchise’s most brutal deaths to date.
The MCU series, which is currently in its second season, has led Tim Hiddleston’s God of Mischief through a lot of time-traveling insanity thus far.
With Loki once again having to deal with the Time Variance Authority (TVA), it was always a guarantee that antics would ensue.
Fans of the programme, however, were not prepared for what the Disney series had in store for them this week, as numerous characters were wiped out in horrifying ways.
Renslayer (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), Miss Minutes (Tara Strong), and Brad/X-5 (Rafael Casal) spent the fourth episode attempting to seize control of the TVA.
They apprehended Victor Timely (Jonathan Majors), pruned D-90 (Neil Ellice), and then targeted General Dox (Kate Dickie) and her troops.
Rather than surrender, Dox and her squad sacrificed themselves while being horribly crushed to death inside a shrinking box.
Loki fans at home were left trembling under their sofas as Brad/X-5 watched on in dread, rushing to X (previously Twitter) to express their disapproval.
‘This was by far the most disturbing scene in the entire MCU,’ one person posted on the social media site. ‘This s**t right here genuinely had me shook.’
‘Along with Miss Minutes giving out that creepy smile while listening to their screams… genuinely horrifying,’ another viewer commented on the scene.
While the scenario terrified people watching, the sound staff was praised for making the event sound so gruesome.
‘The blood dripping noises left me scared with goosebumps,’ one person sad, while another commented: ‘They went extra with the sound effects.’
At the end of the show, fans said a heartbreaking and gory goodbye to Victor Timely, who restored the defective Temporal Loom but paid the price.
He was annihilated by a burst of radiation from the time stream after repairing it, which shattered his body into hundreds of small, blood-soaked ribbons.
