It wouldn’t be reality television without some branding and sponsored content.
However, the Love Island producers are having to think on their feet after a shipment of materials for the upcoming season, including condoms and water bottles, failed not arrive in South Africa, according to reports.
Winter Love Island will begin filming in the coming days, with not just a fresh group of singles entering the villa, but also the introduction of new host Maya Jama following Laura Whitmore’s departure.
Receiving customised things such as the distinctive water bottles and wheely bags with their names on them is one of the benefits of being an islander.
However, it has been reported that the things for this season are now at sea.
Branded water bottles, bags, and condoms were supposed to be supplied ahead of the start of filming, but the cargo ship carrying them has failed to arrive in Cape Town.
‘It’s a logistical nightmare. Everything should have arrived days ago,’ a source told The Mirror.
They also lack key filming equipment, all of the islanders’ signature neon pink stockpile, plus the Love Island condoms and beautiful lingerie that were planned for the hideaway retreat.
Ann Summers goodies, which were part of a new link-up, have also failed to arrive.
Things have gotten hot and heavy amongst the reality dating show’s contestants in previous seasons, so there’s generally plenty of protection on hand to ensure safe sexual practises.
‘They’ve stocked up on alternate condoms to keep everyone safe in the meanwhile,’ said the person.
We understand that islanders will be offered with alternative products while the branded items are delivered.
While there will undoubtedly be many new connections created among the new islanders, who include a TV salesperson, airport security officer, farmer, and financial advisor, one has already stated that she has been advised to avoid participating in any intimate moments on TV.
Anna-May Robey, a payroll administrator from Swansea, has spoken about how her parents and grandparents will be tuning in, so she ‘definitely wouldn’t have sex on TV’.
‘Obviously, with the sex, my parents will be watching, I’m sure my family will be supporting me,’ she added.
‘My grandparents will probably watch as well, I think that’s really something they do not want to see, as well as my dad.’
‘My dad’s already warned me about that. We’ll wait until after Love Island.’
She said she was hoping to ‘find somebody nice’, but she would be setting boundaries in the villa.
Love Island launches on Monday January 16 at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
