Jess Harding and Sammy Root fell in love on Love Island, and the country followed suit, but they are supposedly no longer together.
The couple, both 22, won £50,000 in the final on July 31 after defeating runners-up Whitney Adebayo and Lochan Nowacki.
Despite their accomplishment, they couldn’t manage to make it work on the outside.
‘Jess and Sammy have called it quits,’ according to a source.
Since returning to the UK, they have supposedly discovered that they are better suited in a platonic relationship.
The source added to the Daily Mail: ‘Things have changed since leaving the villa and Jess has realised they’re better off as friends.’
To say the least, the couple had a difficult time in the villa. Sammy got to know a lot of the bombshells, like Amber Wise and Mal Nicol, and even dated them, but he knew it was patient Jess who had his heart.
Sammy proposed to Jess at a beautiful moment by the pool, with the support of his fellow islanders. ‘Will you be his girlfriend?’ the cast yelled from the balcony. and Jess, who is now an In The Style ambassador, yelled back ‘Yes’ and embraced Sammy.
Despite the couple’s formal status, not everyone agreed with their victory.
‘Jess and Sammy? Imma need a recount,’ as one fan put it at the time, while another fumed: ‘THIS IS RIGGED AINT NO WAY SAMMY AND JESS WON OVER WHITNEY AND LOCHAN.’
A third confused Twitter user added: ‘Whitney being the UK favourite for 6 weeks but somehow SAMMY AND JESS WON?!!’
Before you start yelling ‘Love is dead’ from surrounding rooftops and wailing while viewing fan montages of the winners, you should know that Whitney and Lochan, as well as all of the other finalists, are still together.
Ella Thomas and Tyrique Hyde appear to be in love, while Zach Noble and Molly Marsh appear to be as well. We’re all pulling for you!
Former winners Cara de le Hoyde and Nathan Massey, as well as Liam Reardon and Mille Court, also split after winning before rejoining, so Jammy’s story may not be over.
Love Island is available to watch on ITVX.
