Matt Hancock signing up for I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! has naturally sparked quite the backlash, so it might be unsurprising that he’s the bookies favourite to be voted for the most Bushtucker Trials on record.
The former Health Secretary has been reported as the 12th and final campmate on this year’s star-studded line-up and will join late alongside comedian and former Strictly Come Dancing star Seann Walsh.
Mr Hancock’s place on the show has rightfully been called into question, with many already declaring they are going to vote for him for the gruesome trials as payback for his incompetence during the Covid pandemic.
‘Right we’re obviously making Matt Hancock do absolutely every single trial aren’t we? We can just agree on that as a nation?’ one penned on Twitter.
Bookmakers are already predicting Mr Hancock will make history as the campmate nominated for the most trials, with Ladbrokes tipping him at 1/2 to break I’m A Celebrity records.
And sadly, for the politician, the chances of him being crowned King of the Jungle are pretty slim with the bookies placing him as a firm outsider at 33/1 to win the series.
A Ladbrokes spokesperson, said: ‘Matt Hancock has had his fair share of snaky moments in Westminster over the years, and it looks like the British public could be about to give him the ultimate payback Down Under.’
Shortly after Mr Hancock’s place on I’m A Celebrity was revealed, it was confirmed that he had been booted out of the Conservative party.
Chief whip Simon Hart said: ‘Following a conversation with Matt Hancock, I have considered the situation and believe this is a matter serious enough to warrant suspension of the whip with immediate effect.’
In Mr Hancock’s constituency, Andy Drummond, deputy chairman (political) of West Suffolk Conservative Association, added: ‘I’m looking forward to him eating a kangaroo’s penis. Quote me. You can quote me that.’
Ian Houlder, a Conservative councillor on West Suffolk Council, said Mr Hancock has ‘no shame’.
‘Everybody knows what he did during the Covid pandemic and he seems to want to rehabilitate himself all the time in the public eye,’ Mr Houlder remarked.
Over on This Morning, presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield couldn’t hide their glee after he was announced.
I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! returns on Sunday at 9pm on ITV.
