Michelle Keegan will play the protagonist in the Netflix drama Fool Me Once, and the casting selections mean she now has something in common with Leonardo DiCaprio.
Dame Joanna Lumley will play her character Maya Stern’s mother-in-law, Judith, in the thriller.
So, cast your thoughts back to 2013 – the year the phrase twerk was added to the lexicon, Prince George was born, and Kim Kardashian consented to marry Kanye West – but also the year Joanna portrayed Emma in Wolf of Wall Street.
This was Margot Robbie’s character Naomi’s aunt, who married Jordan Belfort (played by Leo), making Joanna his in-law! The two even kissed on the bench, which would make most families’ Christmas dinner a little awkward.
Michelle may now claim a fake familial link with Leonardo, 48. We adore the connection between Manchester and Hollywood. The Trafford Centre will soon get its own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Michelle, 35, was ecstatic to be working on the eight-part series with Joanna, 76.
While their relationship seems to be ‘very strained’ on-screen, things were different on set.
‘I still can’t believe it,’ she added while talking with Metro.co.uk at a Netflix event honouring the impending 2023 content.
Michelle provided insight into what Joanna is like in real life for those of us who have yet to meet the star.
‘She’s hilarious. She has all the crew laughing all the time. She is so professional and lovely to be around.’
We wouldn’t expect anything less.
‘I just gravitated towards her straight away. She makes you feel really comfortable. She’s a legend.’
Michelle added that she had to ‘pinch myself.’
Maya’s husband Joe, played by Richard Armitage, is brutally killed in front of her in the show. However, not all is as it appears when she discovers her ‘dead husband’ on the nanny camera one day. We follow Maya as she attempts to find out what is going on!
The narrative is based on Harlan Coben’s best-selling novel of the same name, and it takes place in Manchester, allowing Michelle, who lives in Essex, to visit her birthplace.
‘I absolutely love it. It’s great that I go to my mum’s for dinner, and see my friends at the weekend.’
Humble Michelle expressed gratitude at getting the part: ‘I am very honoured to be part of this project, and I never take it for granted. I feel very lucky.’
Fool Me Once will stream on Netflix later this year.
