Miriam Margolyes has stated that she is ready to take the next step in her 54-year relationship with her spouse.
Since the 1960s, when they met while working on a BBC radio production, the 82-year-old Harry Potter actor has been in a relationship with Australian professor Heather Sutherland.
While the pair subsequently made their relationship legal with a civil partnership, they have never lived together.
Miriam has previously cited this as one of the reasons for their long-term relationship, stating that they are both busy ‘career women’ with responsibilities in separate locations.
However, she has since stated that they are considering cohabiting because it would be’silly’ for them not to live together in their golden years.
‘We are together, but we live apart,’ she explained of their current living situation.

‘She is in Amsterdam, and I am in London but now we want to live together.
‘I really do want to live with her because we are old, and we haven’t got much time left. It is silly to live apart,’ she added when speaking on the upcoming episode of The Graham Norton Show.
During her visit, she also discussed her outburst at Jeremy Hunt on live radio last year.
Reflecting on her flamboyant remarks, in which she acknowledged she wished she’d told the politician “f*** you, you b******d,” she has since backed down.
‘I would never swear on Radio 4 because to me it is a temple. I truly didn’t know what I had done,’ she explained.
‘I was shocked and appalled at my own rudeness. It was upsetting.’

Miriam revealed information of her relationship with Heather earlier this year, including why she thought it had lasted so long despite the fact that they didn’t see one other very often.
‘We were able to lead our lives without diminishing them,’ she told Vogue.
‘I didn’t want her to have to give up anything and I didn’t want to give up anything.
‘I wanted my cake and I wanted to eat it too. And so far, it’s worked.’
The Graham Norton Show airs Fridays at 10.40pm on BBC One.
