Fans of Only Fools and Horses have been re-evaluating the classic series in light of Nicholas Lyndhurt’s Frasier role, and they’ve uncovered an unexpected revelation.
The Goodnight Sweetheart actor’s unexpected casting in the revival as Kelsey Grammer’s character’s old pal Alan had fans thinking on his time on the BBC sitcom as Rodney Trotter.
Many people thought Nicholas, 62, also sung the theme song to Only Fools and Horses, but a tweet shared by Very British Problems following the first look photos of him in Frasier has destroyed that assumption once again.
The post read: ‘Did anyone else grow up thinking Rodney was singing the Only Fools and Horses theme song?’
Spoiler alert: It was not Nicholas performing but rather the series’ creator, the late John Sullivan, who also wrote the opening track.
The revelation it wasn’t Nicholas’ voice rocked fans with one exclaiming on X, formerly known as Twitter: ‘This is literally new information to me! My whole existence has been a lie!’

Another shocked fan remarked: ‘Yes! I couldn’t believe it wasn’t him, I thought that for ages, it sounded so like him!’
A third refused to believe it wasn’t the Going Straight star, writing defiantly: ‘He was and I won’t hear that he wasn’t.’
Viewers have previously been perplexed by Nicholas’ Frasier casting, which Kelsey revealed came about after they became strong friends while performing in the West End together.

‘Nick and I fell in love when we were doing Man of La Mancha together [at the London Coliseum in 2019]. I warned them in America. I said, “Wait until this guy gets here. You’ll be doing a scene with him and suddenly you realise he’s just run off with it.”
‘He’s an extraordinary actor, a dear friend. And I am so pleased he’s part of it,’ he previously told The Times.
The 10-episode Frasier resurrection will premiere on Paramount+ on October 12 with a double-bill, with fresh episodes airing weekly on Thursdays.
‘The new series follows Frasier Crane (Grammer) in the next chapter of his life as he returns to Boston with new difficulties to tackle, new relationships to establish, and an old goal or two to ultimately achieve,’ according to the official description. Frasier has returned to the building!

Although Jane Leeves and David Hyde Pierce will not be repeating their roles as Daphne and Niles Crane, it was just reported that Peri Gilpin and Bebe Neuwirth would be reprising their roles as Roz Doyle and Lilith Sternin, respectively.
Frasier will premiere on October 12 on Paramount+ in the US and October 13 in the UK.
