Sam Claflin remembered a horrific ballet audition for the 2019 picture Cats, revealing he immediately contacted his agency knowing he wouldn’t get the part.
On Friday, the Me Before You actor, who will co-star in Daisy Jones and the Six opposite Riley Keough, appeared on This Morning with Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary.
The Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, which featured Taylor Swift, James Corden, and Jason Derulo, received mixed reviews.
Talking about his experience audition, Dermot questioned: ‘You auditioned for Cats as well?’
Sam replied: ‘Yeah, that was my other musical theatre, terrible… It wasn’t just an acting or singing audition, there was a whole dance sequence to that particular audition.
The Peaky Blinders actor continued: ‘It’s one of those horror stories that people tell you about.
‘Those auditions where they tried to teach me ballet, in a matter of seconds.’
As Dermot and Alison chuckled at the story, Sam continued: ‘Let me tell you, I’ll never forget, I called my agent afterwards, like “I don’t think I’m going to be a cat.”

‘He said, “Sam you always put yourself down,” and [I said] “No, this time I’m pretty sure this isn’t…”‘
‘Not for me,’ he laughed.
Sam is ready to put aside his worries of musical theatre for Daisy Jones and The Six.
Based on the best-selling 2019 novel of the same name by Taylor Jenkins Reid, the TV adaptation follows a rock band in the 1970s ‘from their emergence in the LA music scene to becoming one of the most iconic bands in the world and investigates the cause behind their breakup at the height of their glory’.
Riley portrays the eponymous role, Sam plays her bandmate Billy Dunne, and Camila Morrone plays his wife Camila.
Daisy Jones & The Six premieres on March 3 on Amazon Prime.
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
