After three cast members announced their shock exits from Netflix’s Sex Education earlier this year, a fourth star has now said she won’t be coming back.

Rakhee Thakrar, who plays Emily Sands (better known to the kids as Miss Sands in the series), has revealed that she has already made her final appearance.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Thakrar, 38, said that she was proud and grateful to have worked on such an ‘important’ series.

She continued: ‘I’m not part of the new series. I can’t really talk about why… There is nothing bad about Sex Education.’

Miss Sands was a popular character who became known for her friendship with main character Maeve (Emma Mackey) and her relationship with fellow teacher Colin Hendricks (Jim Howick).

Her name joins the large list of actors who won’t be coming back for what many are anticipating to be the teen drama’s final season.

Patricia Allison, who plays Ola in the series, released a statement announcing that she would be making no appearances in season four.

While, Tanya Reynolds, who played alien-obsessed Lily, and Simone Ashley, who starred as Olivia, would also not be returning to Moordale High.

Ashley, 27, has been busy making her name on another flagship Netflix series, Bridgerton, where she played prominent newcomer Kathani Sharma.

The role has earned her two award nominations, including for best drama performance at the National Television Awards.

It has taken up so much of her time that she has been forced to make a difficult decision by prioritising Bridgerton over Sex Education.

Speaking to This Morning, she said: ‘I get asked [if I’m returning to Sex Education] all the time. No, I’m a Bridgerton girl now.’

Patricia confirmed her departure from the series in July, revealing in an interview with Capital Xtra that she would not be returning.

‘I’m so sorry to have to break that to you guys, but I’m just going to be doing some other little things,’ she said.

‘Some other opportunities have come up. I’ve been doing it for three years and I’ve genuinely loved it.’

Sex Education is available to stream on Netflix now.
