A terrifying animation shows how Jeremy Renner was nearly ‘crushed to death’ during the snow plough mishap that landed him in the hospital.
On New Year’s Day, the Hawkeye actor was taken to the hospital after breaking more than 30 bones after he was hit by and ‘dragged beneath’ the vehicle.
It was later revealed that the 52-year-old was involved in the horrific accident while attempting to stop his nephew from being hit.
The Marvel star revealed in a recent interview with Diane Sawyer that he has no remorse about the accident and would do it again to save his nephew.
He stated that he was “awake for every moment of the crash” and that, while recollections of the tragedy “trigger” him, he refuses to be “haunted.”
During the conversation, an animated reconstruction shows Renner falling in front of the snow plough while he tells how the disaster occurred.
According to Mail Online, Renner used a snow plough to move a pickup truck after his nephew attempted to clear the road outside the house so that the family could go skiing.
The plough soon began to skid, he continued, but Renner was concerned about his nephew, whom he couldn’t see, so he leant out of the snow plough, describing the experience as “like driving a car with your foot outside the car.”
He then fell on the snow and was unable to get back into the plough since the wheels were still rotating, trapping him beneath.
In the interview, he said: ‘I would do it again.’
‘I refuse to have that be a trauma and it be a negative experience. That is a man I’m proud of because I wouldn’t let that happen to my nephew.
‘So shift the narrative of being victimised or making a mistake or anything else. I refuse to be f**king haunted by that memory that way.’
The actor stated that he thought he was dying and even typed down what he thought were his last words while in the hospital, appealing with doctors not to ‘let me live on tubes on a machine … on drugs and painkillers, just let me go now.’
In the event, Jeremy sustained eight broken ribs and revealed that his lung collapsed after being penetrated by a bone.
He also shattered his right knee, both ankles, and had injuries to his eye socket, mouth, and shoulder.
Jeremy Renner: The Diane Sawyer Interview – A Story of Terror, Survival and Triumph aired on ABC on Thursday.
