Susanna Reid admits she’s been ‘crying her heart out’ as her youngest son gets ready to leave home for university life.
The Good Morning Britain presenter – who has her boys Sam, 20, Finn, 18, and Jack, 17, with ex Dominic Cotton – hasn’t taken on any extra presenting work because she wants to be there for them as they go through their final years of education.
The presenter wants to spend as much time as possible with her sons and make the most of every moment with them as her youngest prepares to fly the nest.
She told the Mirror: ‘You cry your heart out, because all that regular time with your children has gone. It’s really sad.
‘Now they’re all en route to leaving home, I want to enjoy time with them as much as I possibly can. Good Morning Britain is my biggest commitment and I’m not taking on anything extra.’
Meanwhile, she also stopped drinking four years ago and much prefers ‘spending time’ with her boys as a ‘release’.
‘I prefer life alcohol-free – it’s tiring and the hangxiety got to me. I don’t feel like I can plough on after pints of Guinness the night before,’ she added. ‘Spending time with the kids is my release.’
However, she did turn to comfort eating during lockdown and ended up putting on a stone, although she’s since lost a stone and a half.
She said: ‘Unrestricted access to the bread bin was my downfall and not doing enough exercise, so I’m back on the Peloton bike and trying to cut out snacking again.’
And despite making sure she isn’t taking on much extra work over the next few years, she is determined to stay on TV ‘forever’ and continue doing what she loves.
‘I never look ahead. I just hope I’m doing this forever because I love live television,’ she explained. ‘There is never a night before work when I feel fearful. I spend Sundays prepping for the show. Sleep is the only time I switch off.’
