The end of Netflix’s fanciful series Sweet Tooth is imminent, as the streaming giant says that the show’s denouement is coming soon.
The show’s second season premiered last month, reconnecting fans with Gus (Christian Convery), a 10-year-old youngster who is a combination of a human and a deer.
Gus embarked on a trip to find his mother and ended up teaming up with Tommy Jepperd (Nonso Anozie), a nomad wanderer called ‘Big Man’ by his buddy.
Fans of the comic book-inspired programme may be wondering what the future holds for Sweet Tooth after the emotional finale of season two (which we won’t ruin in case any readers haven’t had a chance to see yet).
It has now been announced that another season of the show is in the works, but it will be the final one.
Showrunner Jim Mickle opened up about bringing Gus’ story to a close, explaining that ‘in a lot of ways, it’s exactly the story that I imagined we would tell and in a lot of ways it takes on its own life’.
He continued to Netflix’s Tudum: ‘At the beginning, I think you set out to tell these landmark pieces of Gus’ story and the big pieces of the comic book, but the beauty of long-form storytelling and Gus’ journey over 24 episodes is the characters themselves tell you what they want to be.
‘The crew and cast bring so much depth and point of view to who the characters are and where they’ve come from and where they’re going.’
With the third season now completed in New Zealand, the following adventure will follow Gus, Jepperd, Wendy (Naledi Murray), and Bear (Stefania LaVie Owen) after they have arrived in Alaska.
‘[It’s] another road trip story like season one, but in a very different way,’ Jim outlined.

‘Season three is an Arctic story with exciting new adventures and what we hope will be a satisfying conclusion to this epic tale. Gus is going to see a side of the world and humanity that he didn’t see in season one or two.’
Several Sweet Tooth fans expressed their sadness at the show’s end, while also being grateful that it will have a chance to conclude.
‘I love this show so much, it will be sad to say goodbye, but at least we will get an ending,’ one person tweeted.
‘Last season? I would have loved to see Gus having more adventure with Big Man. 😢,’ another forlorn viewer wrote.
Someone else enthusiastically wrote: ‘YES FINAL SEASON YES ❤️❤️❤️❤️
‘I love this show so much and I’m so happy they have an actual plan for it instead of making it as long as possible 😅 s2 was great btw!’
Sweet Tooth seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream on Netflix.
