Spanish football manager Pep Guardiola made a cameo appearance in the penultimate episode of Ted Lasso, which caused viewers to do a double take.
Ted’s (Jason Sudekis) AFC Richmond confronts Manchester City in the most recent episode of the Apple TV Plus comedy, which is presently airing its third season.
Ted strides over to clasp a man’s hand after Richmond’s victory, but viewers couldn’t believe their eyes when they recognised Josep “Pep” as the recipient.
‘I gotta be honest with ya, you’re a tough guy to beat, man,’ Ted tells him.
‘Nah, don’t worry about the wins or losses. Just help these guys be the best version of themselves on and off the pitch. This, at the end, is the most important thing,’ Pep replies.
The brief interaction was hailed ‘the best thing ever’ by devoted fans, with one person tweeting: ‘Pep on Ted Lasso is the mid-week boost I never knew I needed.’

In this popular comedy, an American football coach travels to the United Kingdom after being recruited to manage a struggling English soccer team.
With the third (and rumoured final) season of Ted Lasso currently airing, the actor who portrays Nathan Shelley, Nick Mohammed, disclosed that he fears what a revival would do to such a successful programme.
When asked how he felt about taking centre stage in a reboot, he told Metro.co.uk: ‘Big shoes to fill aren’t they?
‘I worry about the nature of spin-offs, especially with a show that’s been so successful, but yeah let’s see where the story heads, we’ve got a lot more to see of Nate’
During the height of the pandemic, the first season debuted on the streaming service in August 2020, and critics hailed it as the ideal “serotonin boost” for the difficult time.
Ted Lasso is available to stream on Apple TV Plus with new episodes premiering every Wednesday.
