The trailer for Netflix’s next thriller Lockwood & Co has been released, and it is clear that it is not for the faint of heart.
Joe Cornish, 54, wrote and directed the eight-part adaptation of Jonathan Stroud’s ghost detective series of the same name.
It chronicles the activities of agents Lucy Carlyle (Bridgerton‘s Ruby Stokes), George Karim (Ali Hadji-Heshmati), and Anthony Lockwood (Cameron Chapman), who has started his own ghastly agency.
‘In a society plagued by ghosts, where big corporations employ psychic kids to confront the supernatural, only one company runs without parental supervision, and its name is Lockwood & Co.,’ according to the official synopsis.
‘Run by Anthony Lockwood, a rebellious young entrepreneur haunted by his mysterious past, his brilliant but eccentric sidekick George, and a newly arrived, supremely gifted girl named Lucy, this renegade trio are about to unravel a terrifying mystery that will change the course of history,’ says the blurb.
The trailer begins with a terrified woman bemoaning, ‘It’s terrible the world has come to this,’ before a ghost leaps out of a wall and attacks a sword-wielding Lockwood.

Lucy is seen in the clip, having taken a train to London, sitting downcast in a cafe, fingering through a job advertisement for ‘agents required for an odd supernatural inquiry.’
The brave adolescent then rings the doorbell at a magnificent central London mansion, where he is met by George before being shown to Lockwood.
‘Welcome to Lockwood & Co,’ he says. ‘How about we find ourselves a ghost?’

The video then changes to Lucy drawing her sword as a female spirit approaches her, with Lockwood imploring her not to move as she unleashes a vicious attack.
Officer Barnes (Ivanno Jeremiah) is the next character presented, and he is heard instructing the trio to ‘pay up’ as the movie cuts to them jumping for their lives out of a burning building.
‘So what now?’ Lucy asks, to which Lockwood responds: ‘All it takes is a few big cases.’

The final half of the trailer is action-packed full of ghosts, epic sword battles and chases across a gloomy London, with George remarking: ‘I’m working with maniacs.’
‘Every ghost in London is out to kill us,’ Lucy warns, as George is heard saying: ‘Now we’re all going to die’ as the trailer draws to a dramatic conclusion.
But will the trio successfully fend off all the bloodthirsty ghouls in the capital?
Lockwood & Co premieres on Netflix on January 27.
